    The odd-parity level at 687.59 keV in236U (1977)

    Notizen: Abstract The spin-parity of the 687.59 keV level in236U populated in the decay of236Np is determined to be 2− in disagreement with recent 1− assignments from reaction data, but in accordance with previous radioactive236Np decay studies. The 687 keV ground state transition is shown to have a pureM2 character. The 642 keV 2−→2+ transition hasE1:M2:E3 mixing ratios of 64∶30∶6. The half-life of the 2− state is 3.78 ± 0.09 ns. The hindrance factor of the E1-part fits an E1 transition withΔK=2, theM2-part has the same transition rate as the M2 transitions in the neighbouring237Np nucleus and the E3-part is enhanced by two orders of magnitude relative to the Weisskopf estimate. The data are compared to analogous transitions in the rare earth region.

    Notizen: Abstract The electron capture decay energy of183Re has been determined from the fraction ofK-capture in the transition to the 453.08 keV level in183W by delayed coincidences. From this value the total decay energy from183Re→183W is obtained to beQ=555 −7 +9 keV according to the theory ofBrysk andRose with corrections ofBahcall. The resulting logft values and consequences for the decay scheme are discussed.

    Notizen: Abstract The half-life of theI,K π=2, 2− state at 1318 keV in174Yb has been measured in the173Yb(n, γ) reaction to be 0.486±0.015 ns. This half-life determines the absolute transition probabilities of the gamma-ray transitions to the ground state rotational band yielding the following hindrance factors relative to the Weisskopf estimate:F W(M 2; 2, 2−→0, 0+)=350;F W(M2; 2, 2−→2, 0+)≧77F W(M 2;2, 2−→4, 0+)〉740;F W(E 1; 2, 2−→2, 0+)=4.5×106;F W(E 3; 2, 2−→2, 0+)≈0.1;F W(E 3; 2, 2−→4, 0+)≈0.4. These data are compared to analogous transitions in neighboring nuclei.

    Notizen: Abstract Precise energies and intensities of about 450γ-rays of the197Au(n, γ)198Au reaction have been investigated in the energy range from 30 keV to 1 MeV with a bentcrystal spectrometer. Prompt and delayedγ-γ coincidences have been studied with Ge(Li) detectors. A half-life of 124±4 ns has been measured for the state at 312.036 keV, which is found to decay to the ground state through the cascade 97.195–214.841 keV. A new level scheme based on these results has been constructed which contains 160 transitions. Spin and parity assignments have been made for most of the levels.

    Notizen: Abstract The spin of the 1,029 keV level in200Hg has been determined to be 0 through measurements of theγ-γ-angular correlation of the 661 keV and 368 keVγ-rays following slow neutron capture in199Hg. The upper limit for theγ-intensity ratioIγ(1,029 keV)/Iγ(661 keV) obtained from the curved crystal spectrometer (n, γ)-data is much lower than the ratio found during the200Tl→200Hg decay studies. This implies that the 1,029 keVγ-line seen in the decay work does not lead from the 1,029 keV level to the ground state in200Hg, but that it depopulates a level which is only weakly fed through the (n, γ)-process.

    Notizen: Abstract The decay of the238U superdeformed shape isomer has been reinvestigated by detecting for the first time simultaneously the fission and the gamma-back decay. An electrostatic deflection system has been used to transport the238mU recoils, produced in a238U(d, pn) reaction with a pulsed beam of 18 MeV deuterons, in front of a detector set-up consisting of three ion-implanted solidstate detectors and a Ge(Li) gamma-detector. The gamma-back decay has been measured in coincidence with conversion electrons of the 2+ → 0+ transition deexciting the first rotational state in238U. Two gamma-transitions of 2.513 MeV and 1.878 MeV have been observed with half-lives consistent with the result obtained for the decay by delayed fissionT 1/2=(298±18) ns.

    Notizen: Abstract Double differential cross sections of all prominent transfer channels have been measured in the systems33S +99,91,92Zr at two energies close to the nominal Coulomb barrier. In addition the fusion excitation functions of these systems have been measured below and around the barrier. The angular- andQ-distributions of the most important transfer reactions have been analysed in the framework of a simple semiclassical formalism. Particularly the two-nucleon transfer angular distributions exhibit strong multi step coupling effects which manifest themselves in reduced cross sections at large angles corresponding to close distances. From the angular distributions at forward angles, where a single step character of the transfer reaction can be assumed, approximate form factors have been extracted employing a first order perturbation theory. Within the uncertainties of a schematic coupled channels calculation the isotopic differences of the sub-barrier fusion enhancement can be understood on the basis of the isotopic differences of the transfer form factors andQ-values.

    Notizen: Abstract A new isomeric state in237Np has been discovered at an excitation energy of (945.3±0.2) keV withT 1/2 =(711±40) ns. Six gamma-ray lines have been measured depopulating the isomeric state to known levels in237Np. The comparison of the measured absolute gamma-ray transition probabilities with empirical values yields as most probable spinI andK assignmentI=K=13/2 for this isomeric state. It is most likely a 1-proton-2-neutron quasiparticle state 13/2−π5/2+ [642] +ν7/2− [743] + ν 1/2+ [631]. However, a one-quasiparticle 11/2− [505] configuration for the isomer cannot be excluded.

    Notizen: Abstract Transfer reactions at two near-barrier energies for the systems32S +100,101Ru have been studied. Differential cross sections have been extracted for a large variety of channels, with a set-up yielding good mass, nuclear charge and energy resolutions. A steeper decrease of the measured angular distributions at backward angles with respect to the prediction of a semiclassical theory is interpreted as a loss of transfer flux feeding more complex channels and/or fusion. Coupled channels calculations, which use the transfer form factors derived from the experiment, reproduce the fusion cross sections at sub-barrier energies. Multi-nucleon transfer seems to play an essential role for the fusion process, as evidenced by the found strong correlations. A systematic comparison is made with the systems33S +90,91,92Zr, which have been the object of a previous experimental study with the same set-up.
