Notes:
Summary Smooth muscle cells of the guinea-pig sphincter pupillae were fixed in the presence of 3% lanthanum nitrate. Although only small amounts of lanthanum were found in plasmalemmal vesicles, large deposits were present within a membrane system resembling sarcoplasmic reticulum. The significance of these findings is discussed in relation to the use of lanthanum nitrate as an extracellular tracer.
