Notizen: 〈list xml:id="l1" style="custom"〉1The age-related changes in mean arterial pressure (MAP), heart rate (HR), and baroreflex sensitivity (BRS) were studied in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) and Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) rats from 4 to 20 weeks of age.2Intra-arterial blood pressure (BP) was continuously recorded for 24 h in conscious, freely moving rats. Twenty-four hour MAP and HR were calculated by an online computer. Baroreflex sensitivity was measured by phenylephrine infusion.3In SHR, BRS was significantly lower than in WKY as early as 4-5 weeks, at which time MAP in SHR was only slightly raised. During subsequent weeks, rapid increase in MAP occurred in SHR, in association with progressive bradycardia.4It was concluded that a reduced BRS may be detected in young prehypertensive SHR and this impairment of BRS may be central in origin.

Notizen: Background : An effective therapeutic strategy for functional dyspepsia (FD) has not been well-established.Aim : We investigated and compared the therapeutic effects of famotidine, mosapride and tandospirone for the control of dyspeptic symptoms. Methods : Fully examined FD patients of outpatient clinics at seven different medical centres were enrolled in the study. They were randomly assigned to three groups based on the type of drug administered: famotidine, mosapride and tandospirone. The effects of treatment over 4 weeks were assessed by visual analogue scales. Results : All of the drugs showed beneficial effects, although famotidine was the most effective for symptom relief, which was significantly greater than tandospirone, while the effect of mosapride was similar to that of famotidine. No subtype of FD showed a better response to a particular type of drug. Conclusions : For the treatment of FD, famotidine demonstrated the best therapeutic effect, followed by mosapride, while that of tandospirone was significantly lower.

Notizen: Abstract Maximal immersions of a surfaceM 2 inton-dimensional Lorentz space which are isometric to a fixed holomorphic mapping ofM 2 into complex Lorentz space are determined. The main tool is an adaption of Calabi's Rigidity Theorem. Such an adaption is necessary because of the existence of degenerate hyperplanes in complex Lorentz space.

Notizen: Summary Genetic polymorphism of human factor I (C3b inactivator) has been described using polyacrylamide gel isoelectric focusing electrophoresis of neuraminidase-treated EDTA plasma samples followed by electrophoretic blotting technique. In 435 individuals three different common patterns were observed, and these were controlled by two common alleles at a single locus. The results of typing family material confirmed autosomal codominant Mendelian inheritance. Two common alleles were designated FI*B and FI*A, and gene frequencies were estimated to be 0.8931 and 0.1069 for FI*B and FI*A, respectively. The distribution of phenotypes fitted the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. Linkage studies failed to show close linkage between factor I and the major histocompatibility complex.

Notizen: Summary Polyacrylamide gel isoelectric focusing followed by electroblotting with enzyme immunoassay was done for the investigation of allotypes of properdin factor B (BF) in serum from 326 Japanese subjects. A new BF F variant tentatively designated BF*Fb1 (b=basic) was detected, the isoelectric point of each band of homozygous BF Fb1 being higher than of BF FF. Family data were in accordance with transmission by mendelian inheritance. The allele frequencies calculated from 326 Japanese subjects were 0.7945, 0.1825, 0.0215, and 0.0015 for BF*S, BF*F, BF*Fb1, and BF*F075, respectively, with that of variant BF*Fb1 being a polymorphic frequency. The distribution of phenotypes fitted the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium.

Notizen: Summary Syringobulbia with a large syrinx was revealed by MR imaging. The syrinx extended from the medulla to vertebral level T10. We suspect that this giant syrinx may be produced by a congenital meningioma at C7, generating pulsatile flow in the original syrinx and causing a giant syrinx.

Notizen: Summary In male and female dd-mice at 4, 7, and 14 weeks of age and in 7 and 14-week-old mice gonadectomized at 4 weeks of age, the number of osteoclasts and the number and size of bone resorption areas along the surface of bone trabeculae in the distal metaphysis of the femur were determined. Osteoclasts were counted at the light-microscopic level in paraffin sections of decalcified femora. The number and size of the bone resorption areas were examined by scanning electron microscopy of femora after removing organic material by means of KOH and NaOCl treatment. In untreated mice, the number of osteoclasts and the number and size of bone resorption areas showed no sex differences at 4 weeks of age but were larger in females than males at 7 and 14 weeks of age. In gonadectomized mice, the number of osteoclasts and the bone resorption areas increased in males and decreased in females. The results of the gonadectomy experiments suggest that bone resorption in young adult mice is stimulated by female sex hormone and inhibited by male sex hormone.

Notizen: Abstract Three-dimensional observation was carried out on plerocercoids and adults ofDiphyllobothrium dendriticum, D. ditremum, D. latum, andD. vogeli using scanning electron microscopy. The species-specific differences between plerocercoids were recognized in the shapes of the whole body, scolex, and bothrium and the wrinkle pattern on the body surface. The differences between adult worms were also observed in the shapes of the scolex, neck, and genital papillae around the genital pore and the pattern on the egg surface. The significance of species specificity in the three-dimensional morphology of diphyllobothriid cestodes is briefly discussed.
