Notes: Hepatic function was assessed pre-operatively and on the first and sixth postoperative days in 40 healthy patients who underwent prolonged maxillofacial surgery with isoflurane or halothane anaesthesia. No major changes were observed in hepatic enzymes or bilirubin. One-stage prothrombin time and Factor VII concentrations decreased on the first postoperative day and this change-was more pronounced in the halothane group. The results support the use of isoflurane rather than halothane for prolonged anaesthesia in respect of the synthesising function of the liver.

Notes: [Auszug] It is of interest to investigate these metabolic derivatives further by the use of electron-capture gas chromato-graphy, a tool of great sensitivity in the detection and isolation of chlorinated insecticides. Mature male and female Sprague-Dawley rats within a weight range of 250-350 g were fed ...

Notes: Summary Air was applicated into the left ventricle or arteria carotis communis under continous control of the fundus oculi. The injection of air is immediately followed by the appearance of numerous silver-white small sized air bubbles and/or columns of air with an distinct convex border in the arteries of retina and chorioid. The needed quantities of air varied. After 20 to 30 min on average the vessels were airless again. Extremely the air was seen till 6 to 8 hours after death when the first post mortem fractionations begins. Therefore suggestion can be made ophthalmoscopy could be a possible proof to state arterial air embolism if limited to the first hour after occurrence.

Notes: Abstract The coupled cluster equations first proposed by Coester and Kümmel and developed by Kümmel, Lührmann, and Zabolitsky are derived explicitly from the variational principle for the ground state energy (the “true” energy) using a new set of simple formulas relating density matrices (equal time limits of Green functions) to the coupled cluster functions. In this respect a simplification appears to be achieved by working with a normalized ground state wave function. The further transformation of the variational equations into the standard forms given by the previous authors differs mainly in its pedagogical aspects from ideas found in the existing literature.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary Three fatal cases of intoxication by the desinfectant C4 (Alkyl-dimethylbenzylammoniumchloridgemisch) are reported. The unusual mode of administration of the poison render these cases as rare. In two cases the desinfectant was erroneously administered via enema, using a 3 % solution in unknown amounts. In the third case the desinfectant was used in an attempt to secure abortion. Concentration and amount were unknown. In all three cases death occured very rapidly. The findings at autopsy and the result of the chemical-toxicological analyses are reported. Identification of the toxic substances in the abortion cases was possible. The mode of action of C4 is discussed in the light of the available literature.

Notes: Abstract The ability of PAF-acether (platelet activating factor, 1-alkyl-2-acetyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine) to induce neutrophil migration was tested in the peritoneal cavities of rats and guinea-pigs and in rat skin air pouches. PAF-acether, at doses of 2 and 5 μg per animal, did not promote significant neutrophil migration. The ability of PAF-acether antagonists to inhibit carrageenin induced neutrophil migration in rat abdominal cavities was also investigated. Carrageenin is a substance described to cause the release of endogenous PAF-acether. Neutrophil migration was not affected by PAF-antagonists. These observations challenge the possible role of PAF-acether as a neutrophil chemotactic factorin vivo.
