Beschreibung / Inhaltsverzeichnis: Résumé Une gamme de diterpénoïdes clérodanes, certains naturels, d'autres dérivés par synthèse de produits naturels ou enfin totalement synthétiques, ont été essayés pour leurs effets phagodissuadants contre des espèces de Spodoptera et Heliothis, par examens comportementaux, par observations directes et électrophysiologie des récepteurs du goût. L'examen de la structure moléculaire en relation avec les résultats de ces observations produit une information valable sur les caractéristiques des molécules impliquées dans l'action phagodissuadante. Les fractions époxy et diacétate de l'anneau décalin contribuent toutes deux à l'efficacité de la molécule, et leur configuration influe sur l'ampleur de l'action. Le côté furofuran de la chaîne à C9 est une part essentielle de la molécule et sa composition est liée à son activité. Les réponses comportementales se combinent bien à l'activité d'un neurone dissuadant unique dans la sensille styloconique médiane de S. exempta. Chez S. littoralis et S. frugiperda, le code neural d'évaluation de la valeur alimentaire est plus complexe. Chez ces espèces, la corrélation du comportement et de l'électrophysiologie produit de l'information sur l'importance relative de la contribution des différents neurones au code sensoriel. Les relations entre structure et activité révélées au cours de cette étude ont été examinées en relation avec les mécanismes de réception envisageables dans les neurones impliqués. S. exempta, oligophage, est plus sensible aux effets antidissuadants de ces composés qu'aucune des espèces polyphages.

Notizen: Abstract Natural and synthetic clerodane diterpenoids were assayed behaviourally and electrophysiologically as antifeedants against larvae of Spodoptera exempta (Walker), S. littoralis (Boisduval), S. frugiperda (J. E. Smith), Heliothis armigera (Hübner) and H. virescens (F.). The constitution of the decalin ring and the furofuran side chain were found to have an important antifeedant effect. A correlation of behavioural and electrophysiological responses of the species of Spodoptera revealed aspects of their neural codes and provided some insight into the receptor mechanisms that may operate in individual neurones. The oligophagous S. exempta was more susceptible than the polyphagous species.

Notizen: Abstract Between 1954 and 1985, 15 cases of malignant sacrococcygeal teratoma were treated in our institution. Median age at presentation was 20 months (range 9–46 months); there were 14 females and 1 male. Six cases presenting prior to 1970 were treated without chemotherapy with a median survival of 2 months (range 1–7 months). Five patients treated from 1971 to 1979 had tumour excision plus vincristine, actinomycin D, and cyclophosphamide (VAC). Three received radiotherapy in addition and median survival was 11 months (range 0–31 months). Four patients presenting since 1980 had chemotherapy alone after tumour excision. 1 receiving VAC and adriamycin and the remaining patients cisplatinum, bleomycin, and VP16. All these are alive and disease free (median follow-up 27 months; range 15–96 months). It is concluded that initial surgery aimed at complete excision followed by aggressive chemotherapy gives good results.

Notizen: Summary Plasminogen activator, secreted by metastatic tumor cells, was strongly inhibited in buffer or tissue culture medium containing physiological concentrations of NaCl. Intact cells, however, expressed strong activity under similar conditions. Thus, if plasminogen activator is involved in invasion and metastasis, the cellular activity, acting as an ectoenzyme, may be more important than secreted enzyme under physiological conditions.

Notizen: Abstract Eighty-six children (44 males, 42 females) were identified as having non-tuberculous mycobacterial lymphadenitis. The diagnostic criteria were either culture of the organism from the affected lymph node (n=68), or, when culture was negative, a positive skin test with non-tuberculous mycobacterial antigens and negative skin test responses to tuberculin purified protein derivative (PPD) in association with typical histological features (n=18). All children had histopathological findings of granulomatous inflammation with caseation and/or acid-fast bacilli. Eighty-two percent of the children were under 5 years of age at presentation and 30% were less than 2 years old. Most (79%) were city dwellers. Lymph node enlargement had been present for less than 6 months in almost all children (97.5%) and was almost exclusively in the face and neck region (97%). Disease was confined to the involved lymph nodes in 56% but had extended beyond the confines of the infected node to form a collar stud abscess in 38% and 6% presented with a skin sinus. Extranodal extension did not show any statistically significant association with the duration of lymphadenopathy. The duration of lymphadenopathy had been greater in those children in whom an organism was not isolated on culture resected tissue χ2, P〈0.01). All children were treated surgically, and recurrence occurred in five patients. This study describes the clinical and demographic characteristics of non-tuberculous mycobacterial lymphadenopathy in children in a population in which tuberculous adenitis is rare. Recognition of these features may allow earlier diagnosis and appropriate surgical therapy.

Preparation and Structure of Platina Cyclopentane and Cyclopropane DerivativesThe five-membered (CS)2Pt ring 1 was obtained by the reaction of 2, 2, 4, 4-tetrakis(trifluoromethyl)-1,3-dithietane and (η2-ethene)bis(triphenylphosphane)platinum(0) at low temperatures. 1 is converted at its melting point to the three-membered CSPt ring derivative 2, with elimination of one molecule of hexafluorothioacetone. 2 is also formed directly when the reaction is conducted at temperatures above +30°C. 2 was characterized by an X-ray Structural analysis.

Notizen: Der fünfgliedrige (CS)2Pt-Cyclus 1 kann aus 2, 2, 4, 4-Tetrakis(trifluormethyl)-1,3-dithietan und (η2-Ethen)bis(triphenylphosphan)-platin(0) bei tiefer Temperatur erhalten werden. 1 wandelt sich an seinem Schmelzpunkt unter Abspaltung eines Moleküls Hexafluorthioaceton in den um zwei Ringglieder reduzierten CSPt-Ring 2 um, der auch auf direktem Wege durch Umsetzen des Dithietans bei Temperaturen oberhalb von +30° zugänglich ist. 2 konnte erstmals durch eine Kristallstrukturbestimmung charakterisiert werden.
