Notes: Abstract In recent years new analogue and digital techniques have become available for chest imaging. This study compares conventional film/screen, asymmetric film/screen (InSight), equalization (Amber), storage phosphor and digital image intensifier techniques by phantom exposures and patient examinations. The quality of chest images of 43 patients was classified by seven observers in four different hospitals. According to the results of phantom measurements and a previous study, digital image intensifier radiography was excluded from the patient examinations because of its low image quality. The Amber system had the best image quality. Images of the storage phosphor system were of good quality in both mediastinal and peripheral fields of the chest. Compared to conventional film/screen, the asymmetric film/screen (InSight) was graded higher in the mediastinal field, but lower in the peripheral field.

Notes: Abstract. Digital imaging (digital image intensifier radiography, storage phosphor/selenium radiography) is increasingly becoming commonplace in radiology departments for diagnostic purposes. Despite 10 years of experience, the advantages and disadvantages of those methods are still heavily discussed among users, financiers and prescribers. This paper is to offer additional arguments for a thorough and objective discussion. No further comments or interpretations have been added to this paper. This paper consists of two main parts, A and B. The first part deals with the results of a user survey, the other part presents the results, i. e. statements, of a consensus conference.

Notes: Summary. In the field of radiological research methods, digital imaging is becoming increasingly prevalent. Apart from computerised tomography, magnetic resonance tomography and angiography, also in projection radiography, traditional film/screen imaging is more and more being replaced by digital imaging using digital image-intensifier and storage phosphor technology. Digital imaging offers various new possibilities in image processing, storage and transmission. This may yield additional diagnostic information, dose reduction and fast availability of images. However, an inappropriate parameter selection for imaging and post-processing as well as a lack of integration in the entire organisation may lead to a rejection of this innovative technology.

Notes: Abstract The Common Vole (Microtus agrestis) and the Redbacked Vole (Clethrionomys glareolus) can cause severe damages in forest plantations. Different application techniques of rodenticides to control these harmful rodents were tested by several institutions of plant protection in the Federal Republic of Germany. The following registered baits were used: A bluestained pectin-wax pellet containing 0.0075% Chlorphacinon (Lepit®-Forstpellet), small flour-plates (Arrex®-M-Köder klein) and sunflower kernels coated with plastique-foil (Arrex®-E-Köder) both incorporated with 2% resp. 3.75% zinc-phosphide. In 1985 disperse spraying versus concentrated offering of the baits in 12 earthenware pipes/ha was tested. The density of mice and voles could be reduced nearly to the same level with both methods. However, the amount of baits needed was much less when bait stations were used. In 1986 a new and save type of bait station (Theyson-Köder-station) was tested, from which non-target animals cannot get baits. The acceptance of the bait station could be improved by aromatic compounds from apples. According to the obtained first results forest plantations can be protected during the whole wintertime against vole-damages by means of bait stations.
