Notizen:
Summary The AaDO2 was investigated during controlled hyperventilation and during the subsequent post-hyperventilatory phase. Alveolar gas tensions were measured by mass-spectrometry, arterialPO2 by polarography. The AaDO2 increased with decreasingPACO2. Furthermore there was an increase of the AaDO2 with time at a constant level of loweredPACO2. After 30 min hyperventilation the mean values had increased from normal $$\begin{gathered} {\text{ AaDO}}_{\text{2}} = 11{\text{ Torr to}} \hfill \\ {\text{ AaDO}}_{\text{2}} = 16{\text{ Torr at }}PA{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} = 30{\text{ Torr}} \hfill \\ {\text{ AaDO}}_{\text{2}} = 24{\text{ Torr at }}PA{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} = 25{\text{ Torr}} \hfill \\ {\text{and AaDO}}_{\text{2}} = 29{\text{ Torr at }}PA{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} = 20{\text{ Torr}} \hfill \\ \end{gathered}$$ All differences were significant withp〈0.001. During the post-hyperventilatory period the AaDO2 remained elevated although alveolar and arterial O2-tensions often were definitely below normal. The AaDO2 values, as plotted againstPACO2, during hyperventilation and during the post-hyperventilatory period were different. The same AaDO2 values of both the hyperventilation and post-hyperventilatory period obeyed a linear function if plotted againstPACO2. It is concluded that in these experimental conditions the AaDO2 is mainly determined byPACO2.
