    Notes: Abstract Mass and charge transfer was investigated for the system136Xe+208Pb at 5.9 MeV/nucleon incident energy with aΔE —E-time of flight telescope. The angle and energy integrated cross section for the strongly damped events was found to be 510 mb, very close to the total reaction cross section. The width of the mass distribution as function of the total kinetic energy loss was measured and is compared to the width of the corresponding charge distribution. An upper limit of 1 μb has been found for processes with very large mass transfer.

    Notes: Summary In order to elucidate the role of the hypophysis in the regulation of cholesterol 7α-hydroxylase activity, male and female rats hypophysectomized on day 50 of life were treated with different hypophyseal hormones and tested on day 85 of life. Only a crude extract from human hypophysis and ovine prolactin was able to enhance the enzyme activity, thereby restoring the level of intact controls.

    Notes: Summary The effects of anti-thrombotic drugs—Acetyl-salicylic-acid and 2-Piperazinyl-4-thiomorpholino-pyrido(3,2-d)-pyrimidin-sulfat-trihydrat—on rejection reactions of renal allografts in dogs have been studied. From the clinical point of view no effectiveness of the two drugs can be found, whereas the histological findings do clearly show diminished rejection reactions in the Acetylsalicylic-acid group.

    Notes: Summary The effect of antiaggregating agents - acetylsalicyclic acid (ASA) and dipyridamol - on the rejection of allotransplanted canine kidneys in presensitized animals were studied. Blood flow dropped more markedly in the control group than in the group treated with ASA and dipyridamol. 24 hours after transplantation the blood flow in this group was significantly higher than in the control group (p 2,5 %) and in the third group treated with dipyridamol alone. The cellular rejection started earlier and was more pronounced in the control group. Only in this group vascular rejection and microthrombi were demonstrated. Urine output ceased 24 to 60 hours after transplantation. The immunosuppressive, antiphlogistic and platelet antiaggregating effect of the combined ASA and dipyridamol therapy is thought to be responsible for the better results in this group. In this experimental model the combined treatment of ASA and dipyridamol results in a later onset of cellular rejection, in better blood-flow of the kidney and later onset of anuria.

    Notes: Abstract A remarkable north-south pattern of symmetry in the location of filaments on 11 June, 1972 together with an analysis of surface magnetic field harmonics by Altschuler et al. (1974) is offered as evidence for the existence of giant convective cells. Both data suggest a longitudinal wave number of 5, a value which seems to exclude this symmetry being due to effects of a solar αω-dynamo. The lifetime of these cells was about 2–4 months. This was apparently the only instance from 1959 to 1973 of such cells being manifested in magnetic field patterns which were evident by harmonic analyses or by filament inspections.

    Notes: Summary This paper deals with our experiences with glass-capillary chromatography in medical research. We reported earlier about chromatography of fatty acid methyl esters on a 50 m glass capillary, coated with FFAP. Now we have experimented with a 50 m Silar 10 C column, which gives even better results. The analysis of bile acids on 20 m columns, coated with OV-17, SE-54 or Silar-10 C yields good chromatograms and resolves the main bile acids by base line separation. Further, we are able to report the chromatography of steroid hormones extracted from human urine on a 50 m glass capillary coated with OV-101. Preliminary assessment can be made of the chromatography of the 20 major amino acids after butylation and acetylation on a 50 m Silar-10 C column. As an example of the analysis of vitamins we have chosen the chromatography of nicotinic acid and its isomer. In summary, we are able to show the wide variety of applications of the glass capillary column in medical research.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Unter 835 weiblichen Mammacarcinomen aus den Jahren 1951–1971 fanden wir 44 histologisch seltene Mammaneoplasmen, das entspricht 5,2 %. Sie verteilen sich wie folgt: 21 Comedo-Carcinome, 1 Carcinoma cribrosum, 8 Gallert Carcinome, 3 Plattenepithel-Carcinome und 11 Mischformen. Es wurde deren Verhalten in bezug auf Anamnesendauer, Tumorstadien, Therapie, Spätbehandlungsergebnisse und Prognose untersucht. In Ubereinstimmung mit den Angaben aus der Literatur kann die günstige Prognose der langsam wachsenden Geschwulstformen wie Gallert-Carcinom, Comedo-Carcinom und Carcinoma cribrosum im Gegensatz zum Plattenepithel-Carcinom und den Mischformen hervorgehoben werden.
    Notes: Summary Among 835 cases of female breast cancer in the years 1951–1971 we found 44 histological rare cancers (comedo-carcinoma 21, carcinoma cribrosum 1, gelatinous carcinoma 8, squamous cell carcinoma 3, mixed carcinoma 11). In agree ment with the literature we are able to underline the favourable prognosis of the slow growing forms of the neoplasms like gelatinous carcinoma, comedo-carcinoma and carcinoma cribrosum opposite to squamous cell carcinoma and mixed carcinoma.
