Description / Table of Contents: Summary A solid-phase radioimmunoassay was developed for the detection of HBeAg and anti-HBe in sera or serum fractions. HBe/sAg positive sera, partially purified HBeAg, partially purified HBsAg, and HBe/sAg negative sera were polymerized in polyacrylamide and compared for their ability to bind125I-IgG (anti-HBe). Only gels containing HBeAg reacted specifically with the iodinated antibody. The specificity of the binding was confirmed by blocking and inhibition tests using anti-HBe, HBeAg, HBsAg, and negative control sera. The radioimmunoassay allows the specific and quantitative detection of HBeAg and anti-HBe even in the presence of detergents and high salt concentrations.

Notes: Summary The influence of dexamethasone, ACTH and the combination of both on the glycogen content of the rat adrenal gland was studied. Dexamethasone induces a transient increase of the adrenal glycogen content in a time and dose-dependent manner. The application of ACTH has no effect on the glycogen content. Surprisingly, the increase of the glycogen content induced by dexamethasone is completely blocked by the simultaneous application of ACTH.

Description / Table of Contents: Reactions of Benzoylating Agents with Phosphorous AcidH3PO3 reacts with (C6H5CO)2O to yield C6H5C(OH)(PO3H2)2 1. In contrast, the reaction with C6H5COCl proceeds with the formation of C6H5CCl(PO3H2)2 2 and p-ClC6H4CH(PO3H2)2 3. The best yields of 2 and 3 are obtained, if the reaction are carried out under pressure. 2 is rapidly hydrolysed in alkaline solution at elevated temperatures to 1.

Description / Table of Contents: Synthesis of 2- or 3-substituted Alkanediphosphonic AcidsSyntheses of substances of the general formula RCX(PO3H2)2 X = OH, H, Cl, NH2 have been known for a long time. The preparative possibilities for the synthesis of alkanediphosphonic acids containing an amino group or a chlorine atom in the 2- or 3-position were limited, only 2 substances from this class of compounds being known. Further examples of this class of substances have been synthesized.

Description / Table of Contents: Reactions of 1-Aminoalkane-1,1-diphosphonic Acids with Nitrous AcidCompounds of the structure RC(NH2)(PO3H2)2 1 give products RC(OH)(PO3H2)2 2 in high yields by the reaction with nitrous acid. In contrast, when R = Aryl the reaction of 1 often gives in concentrated hydrochloric acid RCCl(PO3H2)2 3. Exceptions to the above reaction are described.

Description / Table of Contents: Syntheses of Phosphono-carboxylic Acids by Michael AdditionA number of phosphono-carboxylic acid esters are available by means of alkaline catalytic addition of P—H and C—H acidic esters to activated double and triple bonds. These may be transformed into complexing agents by hydrolysis.
Notes: Durch alkalisch katalysierte Addition P—H- bzw.
