Summary Methods for the quantitative determination of organic thiocyanate compounds are described. By modification of the procedure ofPantschenko andSmirnow, a titrimetric semimicro procedure was developed, that is suitable also for aliphatic and heterocyclic compounds (average error ± 1.7%). A micromethod was also worked out. It is based on the conversion by moans of sodium polysulfide of the organic thiocyanate compound into an inorganic thiocyanate; the latter is then determined quantitatively by a spectrophotometric procedure in the form of a red polymethine dyestuff (mean error 6.7%). This micro method is suitable, likewise, for the quantitative evaluation of chromatograms; neutral, basic or acid distribution mixtures do not interfere. Mean error=±8%.
