Notes: Abstract Results of a search for high-spin isomers in W and Os nuclei withN=104–107 are presented. Targets of48Ca and48, 50Ti are bombarded with a pulsed136Xe beam, and delayed gamma-radiation is detected by an array of NaI- and Ge-detectors. Several new isomers, with spin values up to ∼22h, are found in178,180W and180, 182, 183Os. Markedly different decay patterns and hindrance factors are found in the Os isotopes as compared to the expectations based on theK-selection rule valid for axially symmetric nuclei. The findings are ascribed to the onset of triaxial distortions.

Notes: Abstract The Coulomb excitation measurements for the230Th nucleus with32S,84Kr and142Nd projectiles are presented. The use of different projectiles allowed us to get information in the ground-state band and side bands. The energy spectrum of the ground-state band and of the lowest negative-parity band have been investigated up to the spin valueI=24+ andI=19−(21), respectively. Five side bands (K π=0+, 2 1 + , 2 2 + , 1−, 2−) were observed also. The branching ratios for a large number of transitions in the spin regionI≦10 for π=+1 andI≦9 for π=− 1 are analysed. The full set of experimental data contains information on the mixing of the adiabatic states and on the nuclear response to the electromagnetic field ofγ-radiation. It is shown that the experimental data may be explained taking into account the coupling of the ground-β- and twoγ-bands and also of theK π=0−, 1− and 2− negative-parity bands. An enhancement of the transitions from theγ-to theβ-band in respect to the transitions from theγ to the ground band and from theβ- to the ground band is reported. The mixing of the negative-parity bands is found to be typical for the alignment of the octupole-vibrational angular momentum. The strong spin dependence of the intrinsic matrix elements of the electric-dipole operator follows from the branching ratios of inter- and intra-band transitions from theK π=0− states.

Notes: Abstract The nuclear level structure and electromagnetic properties of196Pt were investigated withγ-spectroscopic techniques using multiple Coulomb excitation by208Pb projectiles. Particle-γ, and particle-γ-γ coincidences were measured over a wide range of scattering angles.E2-transition moments and static quadrupole moments have been determined by a comparison of experimental scattering-angle dependentγ yields with calculated yields in a largely model-independent procedure. The results are compared with different theoretical models: the Asymmetric-Rotor Model, the Generalized Collective Model, and the Interacting Boson Model. The best agreement is obtained with the Generalized Collective Model representing a triaxial nucleus which is soft in theγ degree of freedom.

Notes: Abstract In a systematic study of nucleon transfer reactions accompanied by Coulomb excitation we have bombarded152Sm,160Gd and232Th with206, 208pb beams at incident energies close to the Coulomb barrier. Particle-gamma coincidence techniques were used to identify excited states of reaction products populated through inelastic scattering and in nucleon transfer reactions. One-neutron stripping and pick-up reactions on152Sm were observed leading to known states of the rotation alignedi 13/2-bands in153Sm and151Sm. In the160Gd+206, 208Pb systems no significant population of low lying states of product nuclei was found in the nucleon-transfer channels. Large cross sections were observed for one- and two-neutron pick-up from232Th at an incident energy of 6.4 MeV/u. Around the grazing angle they are of the same order of magnitude as the cross section measured for inelastic scattering. The results are analyzed in the framework of semiclassical models.
