    Notizen: Abstract Laser nitriding of Armco iron in nitrogen was studied for KrF-excimer-laser irradiation. The influence of the energy density and number of pulses on the nitrogen take-up and the nitride phases formed was investigated using Resonant Nuclear Reaction Analysis (RNRA) and Mössbauer spectroscopy. Besides the original a-iron, austeniteγ-Fe(N), martensiteα′-Fe(N),ε-Fe2+χN, andα″-Fe16N2 were identified. The fraction of the e-phase was found to increase with the number of pulses and the energy density. A threshold energy density of 1.8(2) J/cm2 for the laser nitriding process was found.

    Notizen: Abstract Armco iron samples were surface nitrided by irradiating them with pulses of an excimer laser in a nitrogen atmosphere. The resulting nitrogen depth profiles measured by Resonant Nuclear Reaction Analysis (RNRA) and the phase formation determined by Conversion Electron Mössbauer Spectroscopy (CEMS) were investigated as functions of energy density and the number of pulses. The nitrogen content of the samples was found to be independent of the number of pulses in a layer of 50 nm from the surface and to increase in depths exceeding 150 nm. The phase composition did not change with the number of pulses. The nitrogen content can be related to an enhanced nitrogen solubility based on high temperatures and high pressures due to the laser-induced plasma above the sample. With increasing pulse energy density, the phase composition changes towards phases with higher nitrogen contents. Nitrogen diffusion seems to be the limiting factor for the nitriding process.

    Notizen: Abstract Deformation parameters of the positive parity yrast band and negative parity bands in83Zr are deduced from lifetimes andE2/M1 mixing ratios. Lifetimes of high spin states have been determined from recoil distance Doppler shift and Doppler shift attenuation measurements using the54Fe(32S,2pnγ) 83Zr reaction. Ten lifetimes and five lifetimes limits were determined. The positive parity band, built on theg 9/2 K=5/2 orbital has an average deformation ¦β 2¦=0.28(2), and shows a reduction ofE2 transition strengths in the observed backbend region at Iπ≈21/2+. In contrast, theE2 strengths in the negative parity states show a steady increase up to Iπ≈=15/2−. These states are more strongly deformed than the positive parity states (¦β 2¦=0.33(3)). TheE2/M1 mixing ratios show that the negative parity band hasK=3/2 and is prolate, and favour oblate deformation for the positive parity yrast band. In theK=1/2− band theE2 strength of the 7/2−→3/2− transition yields a deformation ¦β 2¦=0.26(5). The band structure is compared with calculations within the Hartree-Fock Bogoliubov cranking model.

    Notizen: Abstract We report on the first in-beam study of high spin levels in83Y which were established up to 9.0 MeV excitation energy and probable spin of 41/2+ resp. 27/2− by means of the reaction58Ni(28Si, 3p). Ten lifetimes and six lifetime limits in the 10−12–10−9 s range were determined in two recoil distance Doppler shift experiments. The positive parity yrast states form ag 9/2 Coriolis decoupled band with partial alignment, near-rigid rotor moment of inertia and deformationβ 2=0.29. The negative parity yrast band has very similar collective properties; it shows a pronounced band crossing at rotational frequency ħω≈0.40 MeV which we associate with twoquasiparticleg 9/2 proton alignment. At 2.56 MeV excitation, a second ΔI=1 band starting with 17/2− was found. On the basis of the similarity to85Y and the very weakE2 decay of this state, we suggest that this band has (3qp) configuration with an alignedg 9/2 neutron pair. The lifetimes of the lowest 2+ and 4+ state in84Zr populated in the reaction58Ni (28Si, 2p) were determined to be τ(2)=17.8(11) ps resp. τ(4)=3.5(4) ps.
