Notizen: Summary Nineteen patients with massive lobar haemorrhage without angiographic lesions received direct or stereotactic surgery, and biopsy specimens were examined histologically. Ten patients (53%) were found to have vessels positive for Congo-red staining, and demonstrating amyloid angiopathy. In the patients with amyloid angiopathy, CT scan and surgical findings were investigated. Subarachnoid haemorrhage (9/10), irregularly shaped haematoma (9/10) and fluid-blood density level in the haematoma cavity (7/10) were frequently found on CT scan. The characteristic surgical findings in patients treated by direct surgery were subarachnoid haemorrhage adjacent to intracerebral haematoma (8/8) and the existence of a tangle of vessels in the haematoma cavity (4/8). Evacuation of haematomas was relatively easy, and difficulty of haemostasis was not encountered during surgery.

Notizen: Summary Serial studies by endoscopy and biopsy were made in a Beagle dog during and after oral administration of N-methyl-N′-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG). Between the 23rd and the 45th week of observation erosions and ulcers appeared at the angulus of the stomach and turned into ulcer scar. A depression with atypical glands was seen in the ulcer scar of the posterior wall of the angulus at the 94th week. It developed elevated margins at the 102nd week, when a well differentiated adenocarcinoma was found histopathologically. Ulceration and reepithelialization were observed in the early carcinoma. The carcinoma progressed into a larger one of Borrmann's type 2 at the 115th week and further into its type 3 at the 181st week. A second carcinoma with signet ring cell carcinoma developed in the anterior wall of the angulus. The two carcinomas fused and formed a single lesion. At autopsy in the 216th week the carcinoma invaded the serosa, and metastasis to regional lymph nodes was observed.

Notizen: Abstract Vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMP) occurring after click stimulation in cervical muscles are thought to be a polysynaptic response of otolith-vestibular nerve origin. In optokinetic after-nystagmus (OKAN) the direction of after-nystagmus changes and slow-phase velocity decreases with head tilt. This phenomenon may be an otolith response to the direction of gravity. We assumed that intense clicks might have some influence on OKAN via the otolith-vestibular nerve. Twelve normal subjects who showed VEMP at 75 dB normal hearing level (nHL) clicks were examined. The OKAN was recorded under four conditions: right monaural, left monaural and binaural stimulation by 75 dB nHL clicks, and absence of click stimulation. Horizontal optokinetic stimulation was applied using stepwise increasing speeds from 30 deg/s to 90 deg/s. Two seconds before the stimulus ended, clicks were sounded. The slow-phase velocity of the recorded electro-nystagmography was manually measured. There was no effect on OKAN with unilateral stimulation but binaural stimulation suppressed it. These results suggest that a velocity storage integrator is influenced by intense clicks via the otolithic area.
