Notizen: Summary The dissolution of Hassall's corpuscles by macrophages has been demonstrated in the sheep thymus. The findings indicate that enlarged Hassall's corpuscles are rapidly broken down by macrophages at the end of gestation or immediately after birth and replaced by newly formed corpuscles, and that these cyclic changes in Hassall's corpuscles persist, under normal physiological conditions, throughout life.

Notizen: The mechanism of isomerization of allyl thiocyanate to allyl isothiocyanate has been investigated both experimentally and theoretically. The kinetic study indicates that the reaction is unimolecular and is not ionic. The entropy of activation suggests strongly that the mechanism involves a cyclic transition state. The rate of reaction was retarded to a small extent in polar solvents relative to that in nonpolar solvents. Ab initio MO calculations indicate, in agreement with the experimental results, that the reaction proceeds through a cyclic transition state, one in which the SCN moiety is almost linear. Thus, this is a [3,3] sigmatropic rearrangement. The charge separation in the transition state was substantial. The retardation of the reaction in polar solvents was attributed to the difference in solvation in the original state and in the transition state. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Notizen: Summary Histological observation on the mesenteric lymph node and Peyer's patches of C3H B mice, neonatally thymectomized, lethally irradiated and reconstituted with syngeneic bone marrow cells, showed that a large number of lymphocytes appeared selectively in the restricted territory surrounding the post-capillary venules. Severe depletion of lymphocytes persisted in most of the thymus-dependent areas. Lymphocytes were also observed passing through the walls of the post-capillary venules. Autoradiographic studies on the mesenteric lymph node of recipient B mice 30 minutes after intravenous injection of cells labelled with 3H-uridine and taken from lymph nodes of donor B mice showed that B lymphocytes could penetrate the walls of the post-capillary venules from the blood into the peripheral lymphoid tissues. The post-capillary venules, which are known as the recirculating route of T lymphocytes in normal animals, are thought to be the pathway of migrating B lymphocytes in B mice.
