Notizen: Summary The effect of AS-4370 on gastric emptying was investigated in healthy adults using 99mTc-DTPA. Single doses of AS-4370 2.5, 5 or 10 mg or placebo were administered to 12 subjects in a controlled, double-blind, cross-over study. Tests were performed twice weekly in each subject. Thirty min after administration of test drug or placebo, each subject swallowed a bun and orange juice containing 200 μCi nuclide. The radioactivity of the gastric content was measured for 40 min and the activity of the residue was expressed as a percentage of count at the initiation of measurements. The percentage radioactivity, AUC and gastric emptying time fitted by a power exponential curve, were analyzed. No significant difference was observed between the three dose levels of AS-4370 and placebo in half emptying time. However, decreases in the percentage of radioactivity with time were noted: 5 mg at 10 to 16 min and 10 mg at 8 to 24 min after the start of recording. Lower AUCs after 5 mg and 10 mg compared to placebo were also found. The half emptying time was also shorter after 5 mg and 10 mg than placebo. There was no difference in these parameters between 2.5 mg and placebo. The results indicate that AS-4370 5 and 10 mg but not 2.5 mg accelerates gastric emptying in healthy adults.

Notizen: Summary We estimated the concentration of soluble IL-2R (sIL-2R) in the serum of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and examined the relationship between the serum levels of sIL-2R and clinical features or laboratory data. We found that elevated levels of sIL-2R were present in the serum of SLE patients with discoid rash, and sIL-2R concentrations were correlated with the soluble CD4 and soluble CD8 concentrations but not with classical serological marker, anti-DNA antibody or complement titer.

Notizen: Abstract A 110 GHz superconductor insulator superconductor (SIS) tunnel junction receiver has been developed and used in regular astronomical observations on the 4m radio telescope at the Department of Astrophysics, Nagoya University. The SIS junction consists of a sandwich structure of Nb/AlOx/Nb, and is cooled to 4.2K with a closed cycle He-gas refrigerator. The receiver exhibits a best double side band noise temperature of 23±2 K at 110GHz. Additional measurements at 98–115 GHz indicate that the receiver has a good response over this input frequency range.

Notizen: Abstract To confirm the possibilities of cellulose acetate as a material for a model analysis during viscoelastoplastic deformation, the time-dependent photomechanical properties of the material were examined by means of creep tests under constant stress and recovery tests after removal of stress. Consequently, though the strain and the fringe order of cellulose acetate during creep and recovery are greatly influenced by stress and room temperature, both of them can be described simply by a power function of time, and the coefficient of each of these formulas can be represented by a function of the ratio of active stress to yield stress only. The effect of temperature is included in the formulation of the yield stress. In addition, the strain and the fringe order can be represented by the viscous-viscoelastic model proposed by Findleyet al.,1,2 in which both of them are divided into four components: elastic, plastic, time-dependent irrecoverable viscous and time-dependent recoverable viscoelastic. The relation between viscoelastic strain and viscoelastic fringe order, and the relation between viscous strain and viscous fringe order were verified to be equivalent to that between plastic strain and plastic fringe order, all of which do not depend on stress, temperature or time. Therefore, the strain distribution of cellulose acetate under viscoelastoplastic deformation can be determined directly from the value of the fringe order measured.

Notizen: Chemical composition and physical properties of silk fibers from Gonometa rufobrunnae, a silkworm belonging to the family Lasiocampidae (order Lepidoptera, class Insecta) have been studied. G. rufobrunnae silk fibroin contains a large amount of glycine and alanine, as well as hydroxyl, acidic, and basic amino acids. The gly/ala ratio is 1.5, similar to that of Bombyx mori silk fibroin. The ratio between polar and nonpolar amino acids is higher than that of either domestic (family Bombycidae) or wild (family Saturniidae) silk fibroins. The sericin is characterized by a large amount of hydroxyl amino acids, mainly serine. The infrared spectrum of G. rufobrunnae silk fibroin showed characteristic absorptions at 1630, 1530, and 700 cm-1 attributed to the β structure and at 1650 and 1540 cm-1 due to the random-coil conformation. The birefringence and isotropic refractive index values were 0.027 and 1.559, respectively. The differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) curve showed two minor endothermic peaks at 222 and 288°C, together with a major endothermic peak at 344°C, attributed to the decomposition of the fibroin with β conformation. The fibers exhibited a maximum contraction peak (4.3%) at about 230°C. The dynamic storage modulus (E′) exhibited an abrupt drop at 190°C, while the loss modulus (E″) curve increased above 185°C with a sharp slope. The surface of degummed G. rufobrunnae silk fibers was very smooth. The shape of the cross section was triangular, round, or roundish shaped. Some fibers were very flat, showing a ribbonlike shape. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
