Aminyl Oxides, XV. Solvent Dependence of the E.S.R. Spectra of Azomethine Aminyl OxidesIn aprotic and protic solvents a correlation was found between aNNO and ET-values for the aminyl oxides 1-4 and 6-8. The e.s.r. spectrum of 5 shows a second radical species in dimethylformamide, acetonitrile, and the alcohols with exception of tert-butyl alcohol. In this second species, which is present almost exclusively in methanol, the azomethine and aminyl oxide group are believed to be syn oriented (Z-conformation), while the E-con-formation is ascribed to the species existing in the less polar solvents.
Notes:
