    Neutrophil Chemotaxis Defect in IgA Deficiency Evaluated by Migration Agarose Method (1980)

    Notes: The chemotactic and random mobility functions of twelve selectively IgA-deficient patients were evaluated by a method using agarose gel. A severe polymorphonuclear cellular chemotactic defect was found in ten out of twelve patients, but only five of them also showed a marked associated impairment of random locomotory function. Furthermore, in one subject, levamisole therapy resulted in a dramatic improvement of both chemotactic and random mobility functions. These results are discussed in the paper with respect to the possible pathogenetic implications.

    Notes: Mononuclear cells isolated from peripheral blood of normal donors produce free oxygen radicals (FR), delectable by chemiluminescence (CL). when interacting with target cells during natural killer (NK) cell lysis. FR-producing cells were found to have monocyte characteristics and gave a positive CL reaction when mixed at low concentration (0.5%) with purified NK cells. No correlation was found between susceptibility to NK cell lysis and capacity to induce CL with different target cell lines. Using high and low molecular FR scavengers, no NK cell inhibition was seen with superoxide dismutase, cytochrome c, and catalase, whereas some inhibition was seen with 4,5-dihydroxy-in-benzcnedisulphonic acid (Tironø) and 2,3-dihydroxybenzoatc. These compounds, however, required higher concentraiions than used for inhibition of CL, suggesting an alternative action of these compounds. Normal levels of NK cell activity were found in two patients with chronic granulomatous disease, who were genetically incapable of producing detectable amounts of FR. As a result, it is concluded that human NK cells do not produce large amounts of FR during killing and that FR are unlikely to be the lytic end product. Nevertheless, neither a low degree of FR formation in NK cells nor a more subtle signal-transmitting role of FR during NK cell triggering can be excluded.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Die vorliegende Arbeit berichtet über die Untersuchung des Partnerauges von 534 Patienten, die von einseitiger Ablatio retinae betroffen waren. Fast 90% dieser Augen zeigten degenerative Areale und ungefähr 20% hatten einen oder mehrere Netzhautrisse. Diese Befunde sind recht unterschiedlich von Zufallsbefunden und zeigen, daß Partneraugen ein hohes Risiko haben und oft eine prompte prophylaktische Behandlung benötigen.
    Notes: Abstract The examination findings of the fellow eye of 534 patients affected by a unilateral retinal detachment are reported. Nearly 90% of these eyes showed degenerative areas and about 20% showed one or more retinal breaks. These findings are quite different from those reported in examinations of ‘random eyes’ and suggest that fellow eyes are ‘high risks’ that often need prompt prophylactic treatment.

    Description / Table of Contents: Summary A widespread volcanism mainly consisting of pyroclastic products and lava flows is found in the Southern Alps of Lombardy. The volcanics are interbedded with Anisian-Ladinian carbonatic sequences and continental terrigenous or transitional deposits of Ladinian-Carnian age. The petrographic and geochemical data for this volcanism indicate a calc-alkaline affinity with characters similar to those of convergent continental margins. In this sector of the Alps the geological evidences show that in the middle Triassic general extensional movements were the dominant deformation event, and do not support the existence of a subduction zone during this period. The apparent contrast between the tectonic environment and the type of magmas erupted in the Anisian-Carnian is tentatively explained by partial melting during the early stage of rifting of an upper mantle deeply modified during the previous Hercynian orogenesis and contaminated by crustal material. This hypothesis is in agreement with the preliminary Sr isotopic ratios (0.705 and 0.709). K/Ar and Rb/Sr ages on biotites date the beginning of the volcanism at around 225 m.y.
    Abstract: Résumé Un volcanisme très répandu constitué surtout par des produits pyroclastiques et par des coulées de lave se trouve dans les Alpes Méridionales en Lombardie. Ces produits volcaniques sont intercalés dans la série carbonatique du bassin d'âge Anisien-Ladinien et dans les dépôts terrigènes continentaux ou transitionnels d'âge Ladinien-Carnien. Les données pétrographiques et géochimiques de ces produits volcaniques montrent une affinité calcoalcaline avec des caractères semblables à ceux des marges continentales convergentes. Dans le Trias moyen de cette partie des Alpes, les données géologiques indiquent que le motif dominant de la déformation est un mouvement d'extension très répandu, tandis qu'il n'y a aucune évidence de l'existence d'une zone de subduction durant cette période. Le contraste entre le style tectonique et le type de magma mis en place dans l'Anisien-Carnien, peut être expliqué par une fusion partielle du manteau supérieur pendant un stade précoce d'effondrement modifié intensément pendant la précédente orogenèse hercynienne et contaminé par des matériaux d'origine crustale. Cette hypothèse est en accord avec des données préliminaires des rapports isotopiques du Sr (0.705 et 0.709). Des âges K/Ar et Rb/Sr sur des biotites donnent 225 m.a. environ pour le début de l'activité volcanique.
    Notes: Zusammenfassung In den Südalpen der Lombardei befindet sich ein weitverbreiteter Vulkanismus, der hauptsächlich aus pyroklastischen Produkten und Lavaströmen besteht. Vulkanische Produkte sind mit anisisch-ladinischen beckenartigen Karbonat-Schichtfolgen oder mit ladinisch-karnischen kontinental-terrestrischen oder Übergangsablagerungen eingebettet. Die petrographischen und geochemischen Daten für diesen Vulkanismus weisen auf eine den konvergenten Kontinentalschelfen ähnliche kalkalkaline Affinität hin. In diesem Sektor der Alpen zeigen die geologischen Beobachtungen, daß die dominanten Verformungsereignisse der mittleren Trias allgemeine Dehnungsbewegungen waren und weisen nicht auf die Existenz einer Subduktionszone zu dieser Zeit hin. Der scheinbare Widerspruch zwischen dem tektonischen Milieu und dem im Anis bis Karn ausgeworfenen Magmatyp wird versuchsweise mit einer Teilaufschmelzung eines während der vorhergehenden herzynischen Orogenese tief veränderten und mit Krustenmaterial verunreinigten oberen Mantels während der Frühphase einer Grabenbildung erklärt. Diese Hypothese ist im Einklang mit den präliminaren Sr-Isotopenverhältnissen (0.705 und 0.709). K/Ar und Rb/Sr Altersmessungen an Biotiten datieren den Anfang der vulkanischen Tätigkeit um 225 Ma.

    Notes: Abstract For O(N), U(N) and SU(N) groups, we study the weak coupling behaviour of the one-link integrals using their Schwinger-Dyson equations. Special attention is paid to the perturbative corrections to the large N limit. In the case of unitary groups, the 1/N 2 correction is obtained explicitly.

Pour la plupart des adhésifs étudiés l'existence d'un pic double de polymérisation et d'une double transition vitreuseT g permet de supposer qu'il s'agit de copolymères greffés.
    Abstract: Zusammenfassung Die Glas-Übergangstemperaturen (T g) und dieΔH thermische Effekte der Polymerisation wurden für fünf Epoxy-Klebstoffe unbekannter Zusammensetzung bestimmt. Aus den TrendsΔH gegenübert cure war es möglich eine phenomenologische kinetische Ordnung der Polymerisationsgeschwindigkeit bei 100° durch ein iteratives Berechnungsverfahren zu ermitteln. Für die meisten untersuchten Klebstoffe besteht der Grund — Doppelpeak der Polymerisation und doppeltesT g-Signal — sie als Pfropfcopolymere zu betrachten.
    Notes: Abstract The glass transition temperatures,T g, and thermal effects of polymerization,ΔH, have been determined for five epoxy adhesives of unknown composition. From the trendsΔH vs./t cure it has been possible to attain a phenomenological kinetic order of the polymerization rate at 100° through an iterative calculation procedure. For most of the investigated adhesives there are reasons (double peak of polymerization and doubleT g signal) to assume that they are graft copolymers.
