Description: The aim of this paper is to provide a comprehensive overview of the MICCAI 2020 AutoImplant Challenge. The approaches and publications submitted and accepted within the challenge will be summarized and reported, highlighting common algorithmic trends and algorithmic diversity. Furthermore, the evaluation results will be presented, compared and discussed in regard to the challenge aim: seeking for low cost, fast and fully automated solutions for cranial implant design. Based on feedback from collaborating neurosurgeons, this paper concludes by stating open issues and post-challenge requirements for intra-operative use.

Notes: The charging of dust particles caused by the thermal electrons, the cold ions, and the electron beam released from a plane cathode, including secondary emission of dust in a collisionless cathode sheath of glow discharges, is investigated with a self-consistent theoretical model. Effects of the dust charging relevant to the electron beam including secondary emission of dust are important to the dust potential in the close cathode region. Collection of electrons from the electron beam by dust leads to a decline in the dust potential, but secondary emission of dust by the electron beam impact causes a rise in the dust potential. The dust potential can be negative in the whole sheath if an electron beam emitted from a cathode is strong enough. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Abstract: Twenty analogs of l-methyl-4-phenyl-l,2,3,6-tet-rahydropyridine (MPTP) were tested for their capacity to be xidized by pure monoamine oxidase-A (MAO-A) prepared from human placenta and pure monoamine oxidase-B (MAO-B) prepared from beef liver. Several of the MPTP analogs were very good substrates for MAO-A, for MAO-B, or for both and had low Km values and high turnover numbers. These values were similar to or even better than those of kynuramine and benzylamine, good substrates for MAO-A and MAO-B, respectively. MPTP had relatively low Km values for oxidation by both MAO-A and MAO-B. In contrast, the turnover number for MPTP oxidation by MAO-B was considerably higher than the value for MAO-A. The corresponding pyridinium species of MPTP and several of the MPTP analogs inhibited MAO-A competitively with Ki values at micromolar concentrations; in contrast the pyridinium species inhibited MAO-B competitively at considerably higher concentrations (i.e., 100 μM or greater Ki values). The data provide information concerning the structural requirements for the oxidation of tetrahydropyridines by MAO-A and MAO-B and the inhibition of these enzymes by pyridini-ums

Notes: In this article, we derive a strongly nonlinear evolution equation by using the integral method to study the instabilities in a directionally solidified binary mixture. This equation can not only describe the interfacial behaviors of all the long-wave limits, but can also provide the possibility of strongly nonlinear instability analyses. Weakly nonlinear analyses proceeded from the critical conditions are undertaken to investigate the two-dimensional bifurcation types and a transition curve separating subcritical and supercritical ranges is obtained.

Notes: The distribution and suspension of dust particles under the action of electrostatic, gravitational, ion-drag and neutral collision forces are investigated near the boundary of a dusty plasma. It is shown that the competition among the forces results in spatial oscillations (multi-layer) of the particle distribution. For sub-micron grains the ion-drag has a significant effect on the grain dynamics while for micrometer sized grains the gravity quickly dominates over other forces. The effect of the neutral gas flux is to enhance or diminish that of the gravity while the effect of the neutral viscosity is to shift the profile toward the wall. Under the force balance, the particles are suspended in a narrow region with sharp boundaries within the sheath. © 1997 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Deletion of the spermidine synthase gene in the fungus Aspergillus nidulans results in a strain, ΔspdA, which requires spermidine for growth and accumulates putrescine as the sole polyamine. Vegetative growth but not sporulation or sterigmatocystin production is observed when ΔspdA is grown on media supplemented with 0.05–0.10 mM exogenous spermidine. Supplementation of ΔspdA with ≥ 0.10 mM spermidine restores sterigmatocystin production and ≥ 0.50 mM spermidine produces a phenotype with denser asexual spore production and decreased radial hyphal growth compared with the wild type. ΔspdA spores germinate in unsupplemented media but germ tube growth ceases after 8 h upon which time the spores swell to approximately three times their normal diameter. Hyphal growth is resumed upon addition of 1.0 mM spermidine. Suppression of a G protein signalling pathway could not force asexual sporulation and sterigmatocystin production in ΔspdA strains grown in media lacking spermidine but could force both processes in ΔspdA strains supplemented with 0.05 mM spermidine. These results show that increasing levels of spermidine are required for the transitions from (i) germ tube to hyphal growth and (ii) hyphal growth to tissue differentiation and secondary metabolism. Suppression of G protein signalling can over-ride the spermidine requirement for the latter but not the former transition.

Notes: Abstract In a longitudinal panel study design, 80 hospitals in Virginia were selected for analysis to test the hypothesis that the introduction of the prospective payment system (PPS) in October 1983 had helped hospitals enhance their operational performance in technical efficiency. A non-parametric method called Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) was used to calculate and compare the efficiency scores for each peer group of hospitals (by bed size) between the year 1984 and the year 1993. Contrary to expectations, no significant difference in technical efficiency was found in each hospital peer group over the study period. Nevertheless, the case study demonstrates that if hospital managers use this analytical tool appropriately, they may spot where any organizational weakness lies and how they can improve it.

Notes: A new automatic high velocity arc spraying system was developed. The system wasconsisted of five units, i.e. central control unit, operating machine, positioner, touching screen andhigh velocity arc spraying equipment. The central control unit is controlled by a program, controllingother four units. Spraying parameters could be input and modified on the touching screen duringspraying. The moving of spraying gun was carried out by motion arm of the operating machine. Therotational velocity and angle of components to be sprayed was controlled by positioner. The sprayingprocess for a cylinder body of automobile engine with the system was introduced in detail. The autoand manual arc spraying have been used to fabricate coating. The microstructure of the coatingsprepared by the two spraying processing was analyzed. The result shows that the auto sprayed coatinghas a more uniform and compact structure than that of the manual sprayed coating

Notes: Cored wires and high velocity arc spraying (HVAS) technologies have been applied toproduce Zn-Al-Mg-RE coating on A3 steels. The durability of coating in terms of corrosionresistance is the focus of this paper. The detailed degradation mechanism has been investigated usingelectrochemical-monitoring techniques supported by precise pre-test and post-test microscopicalexamination using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD).Zn-Al-Mg-RE coating shows a typical aspect of layered heterogeneous structure, the existing ofZnAl2O4 and MgAl2O4 implies the good anti-corrosion feature. The polarization curves showed thatZn-Al-Mg-RE coating exhibits passive behavior at 0.5h and 16h immersion, but at 600h, it begins todissolute. In contrast, the anti-corrosion performance isn’t cut down. The corrosion potential movesto the noble direction step by step, along with the current density drops gradually. After corrosion, ithas been observed that the coating surface is jointed by flaky lamellar products and dense withoutobvious defects and pores. It is postulated that with the addition of RE, the porosity of the coating isreduced, meanwhile, the stability of the products layer can reinforce the self-sealing effect of thecoating distinctively
