Notes:
The presence of 19 cardenolides (G, H, J, K, L1 L2 L3 M1, M2 M3 M4 M5, O, P1, P2, Q1, Q2, Q3 and R) could be traced in the water-soluble parts obtained after fermentation from the seeds of Stropkalzthus vartderijstii STANER. Eight of these (G, H, J, K, L1, L2, L3 and M1) could be isolated in crystal line form, and two (O and P2) in amorphous but homogeneous form, according to paper chromatography. P2 M2 and M3 were obtained as crystalline O-acetyl derivatives. The presence of M4 M5 and of three components in the Q group became evident only after degradation reactions.
