    Notes: Abstract New pole positions for Triassic and Cretaceous times have been obtained from volcanic and sedimentary sequences in Central Iran. These new results confirm the general trend of the Apparent Polar Wander Path (APWP) of the Central-East-Iran microplate (CEIM) from the Triassic through the Tertiary as published by Soffel and Förster (1983, 1984). Two new palaeopoles for the Triassic of the CEIM have been obtained; limestones and tuffs from the Nakhlak region yield a mean direction of 094.0°/25.0°, N=12, k=4.1,α 95=24.7°, after bedding correction, corresponding to a palaeopole position of 310.8°E; 3.9°S, and volcanic rocks from the Sirjan regions yield a mean direction of 114.5°/35.1°, N=44, k=45.9,α 95=3.2° after bedding correction and a palaeopole position of 295.8°E; 10.3°N. Combining these with the two previously published results yields a new palaeopole position of 317.5°E; 12.7°N, for the Triassic of the CEIM, thus confirming that large counterclockwise rotations of the CEIM have occurred since the Triassic time. New results have also been obtained from Cretaceous limestones from the Saghand region of the CEIM. The mean direction of 340.7°/26.3°, N=33, k=44.3,α 95=3.8°, and the corresponding palaeopole position of 283.1°E; 64.4°N, is in agreement with previously determined Cretaceous palaeopole positions of the CEIM. Furthermore, results have also been obtained from Triassic dolomite, limestone, sandstone and siltstone from the Natanz region, which is located to the west of the CEIM. A total of 161 specimens from 44 cores taken at five sites gave a mean direction of the five sites at 033.3°/25.1°, N=5, k=69.0,α 95=9.3° and a palaeopole position of 167.2°E; 53.7°N. They pass the positive fold test of McElhinny (1964) on the level of 99% confidence. This pole position is in fairly good agreement with the mean Triassic pole position of the Turan Plate (149°E; 49°N). It indicates that the area of Natanz has not undergone the large counterclockwise rotation relative to the Turan plate since the Triassic, which has been shown for the CEIM. A Triassic palaeogeographic reconstruction of Iran, Arabia (Gondwana) and the Turan Plate (Eurasia) is also presented.

    Description / Table of Contents: Summary Plain film radiography often underestimates the extent of injury in children with epiphyseal fracture. Especially Salter-Harris V fractures (crush fracture of the epiphyseal plate) are often primarily not detected. MRI of the ankle was performed in 10 children aged 9–17 (mean 14) years with suspected epiphyseal injury using 1.0-T Magnetom Expert. The fractures were classified according to the Salter-Harris-Rang-Odgen classification and compared with the results of plain radiography. In one case MRI could exclude epiphyseal injury; in four cases the MRI findings changed the therapeutic management. The visualisation of the fracture in three orthogonal planes and the possibility of detection of cartilage and ligamentous injury in MR imaging makes this method superior to conventional radiography and CT. With respect to radiation exposure MRI instead of CT should be used for the dignosis of epiphyseal injuries in children.
    Notes: Zusammenfassung Die konventionelle Röntgendiagnostik unterschätzt häufig das Ausmaß der kindlichen Extremitätenfrakturen mit Epiphysenbeteiligung (Typ Salter-Harris). Insbesondere werden die Kompressionsfrakturen der Wachstumsfuge (Salter-Harris V) primär häufig nicht erkannt. Prospektiv wurden 10 Kinder im Alter von 9–17 Jahren (Durchschnittsalter=14 J.) mit Verdacht auf eine epiphysäre Fraktur der distalen Tibia magnetresonanztomographisch (1.0-Tesla Magnetom Expert), untersucht. Die MRT-Ergebnisse wurden auf der Basis der Klassifikation nach Salter-Harris-Rang-Odgen mit den konventionellen Röntgenbildern verglichen. In einem Fall, bei einem 15jährigen Patienten, gelang durch die MRT der Ausschluß einer epiphysären Verletzung. In 7 Fällen führte der MRT-Einsatz zu einer Änderung der Klassifikation nach Salter-Harris. Hieraus resultierte bei 4 Patienten ein Therapiewechsel. Da Frakturen, die sie begleitenden Knorpelläsionen und ligamentäre Verletzungen multiplanar dargestellt werden können, weist die MRT deutliche Vorteile gegenüber jeder anderen diagnostischen Methode (z.B. konventionelle Röntgendiagnostik, CT) auf. Im Hinblick auf die Strahlenexposition ist sie besonders bei Kindern eindeutig zu bevorzugen.

    Notes: Abstract Excitation functions and forward-backward anisotropies have been measured for the7Li(p, γ)8Be capture reaction over the proton energy rangeE p =100 to 1500 keV, using a 4π summing crystal and Ge(Li) detectors, respectively. The data show at all energies the presence of El and M1 capture amplitudes arising from the direct capture (DC) process and theE R =441 and 1030 keV resonances, respectively. Due to the observed DC process, the present data increase significantly the reaction rates (up to a factor of 110) compared to values given in the compilation. The data and their analyses remove the recent criticism on DC model calculations, which had implied a significant reduction in the extrapolated S(E) factor for7Be(p,γ)B and thus in the predicted flux of high-energy solar neutrinos; thus, the solar neutrino problem is still with us.

    Notes: Summary Supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) connected to open tubular gas chromatography has been used for the analysis of non-polar to medium polar volatiles entrained in polymers. This polymer sheets, prepared with the aid of a microtome, have been extracted with supercritical carbon dioxide. The influence of sample area/weight ratio and extraction cell volume on the SFE performance has been investigated. Further, quantitative analysis was executed by stepwise extractions. A set of polybutylene terephthalate polymers, originating from different manufactures, has been analysed regarding entrained volatiles.

    Notes: An analytical system for the analysis of volatiles entrained in polymers is described. This system is based on a thermal desorption oven connected to a cold trap. After enrichment of headspace vapor, trapped material is reinjected and analyzed by open tubular gas chromatography/Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, OTGC/FTIR. The thermal desorption oven is designed to provide different modes of sample introduction: use of a pyroprobe; insertion of a piece of quartz tubing with applied sample; or syringe injection. Headspace enrichment is carried out in a piece of fused silica capillary tubing filled with glass beads. The trap may be cooled either electrically using Peltier elements or with liquid nitrogen. A six-port rotary valve is used for flow switching between enrichment and reinjection modes. All system parameters, temperatures, and timed events, are controlled from the gas chromatograph. Dynamic headspace analysis is demonstrated as a method for polymer characterization.
