Notes: Summary The vena cava inferior was replaced by alloplastic vein replacement materials in 60 beagle dogs divided in 6 groups. The wall-porosity varied from 50 to 280 ml/cm2 per minute in the textile prostheses (water porosity) (Groups 1–3), and from 30 to 60 µm fibril length in the expanded PTFE-prostheses. All textile prostheses (woven or knitted) are clearly inferior of expanded PTFE-prostheses. The fibril length of 60 µm represents an improvement in comparison with a length of 30 µm regarding the patency rate and the incorporation process, but it needs a special external support.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Möglichkeiten der primären Daumenwiederherstellung: 1.
Notes: Summary Possibilities of primary restoration of the thumb are: 1. If the amputated thumb is otherwise uninjured, it may be replanted. 2. If the thumb is severely damaged or lost and a simultaneously amputated finger is available, this finger can be replanted on the stump of the thumb. As secondary interventions the following are feasible: 1. Autotransplantation of a finger if a direct transposition is not possible and an ulnar finger has been damaged. 2. Autotransplantation of a toe. This becomes necessary if the fingers have also been lost, is the major function of the hand is to be retained or if special requirements exist for the patient's job.

Notes: Summary Primary amputation of the lower extremity has become rare in the last years due to the advances in rigid fixation of the bone, plastic and microsurgical techniques and aseptic surgery. Primary amputation is indicated in the presence of non-reconstructable lesions of vessels and/or nerves, secundary amputations when vascular, neural or septic complications occur.
