Notes:
Summary Vitamin A-acid, locally applied, causes at the normal squamous epithelium of portio and vagina irritations like those of an acute non-bacterial, hemorrhagic colpitis. After a short series of applications already, additional oedema of cells, karyolysis and karyorhexis occur. These changes can histologically only be observed in the superficial layers. These alterations of the cells are only slightly simmular to the reaction of cells treated with cytostatics or x-ray therapy. An influence on the mitosis is not to recognize. In the subepithelial connective tissue the appearance of unspecific cellinfiltrations, which lead to a phlegmonose, ulcerating inflammation, was especially remarkable. Further studies with Vitamin A-acid, locally or orally applied, will demonstrate a possible effect on the early cervical cancer cell. The impressiv reactions of the cells shortly after the application, ask for further investigations.
