Notes: Summary Energy-dispersive X-ray microanalysis was performed on human biopsy materials taken during laryngoscopic intervention in 18 cases. The removed tissue pieces were divided into two parts. One of them was used for pathohistological studies, the other was processed for X-ray microanalysis by the freeze-fracture freeze-drying method. Of the cases investigated 4 proved to be of benign character, whereas the rest contained carcinoma planocellulare keratoides or nonkeratoides. Bulk specimen energy-dispersive X-ray microanalysis of 135 cells from the benign tissue samples revealed an average Na+/K+ molar ratio of 0.13±0.01 (SEM) in the intracellular space, with a regular Gaussian distribution. In the cases of carcinomas 641 cells were measured, the average of the same ratio was 0.67±0.03 (SEM) due mostly to an increase in the Na+ content. The distribution of data was apparently not normal in the cancerous samples. These observations and some theoretical considerations support the notion that the intracellular Na+/K+ ratio correlates with the proliferative capacity of tissues. The relevance of some recent biochemical results is also discussed in this respect.

Notes: Abstract. The epitaxial growth of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O x (Bi2212) high temperature superconducting thin films was studied. The films were solution-deposited from a polymer-containing precursor onto SrTiO3 (001) substrates. Bi2212 formed an epitaxial phase with the c-axis parallel to the substrate normal and an in-plane orientation with the a-axis parallel to the SrTiO3 [110] and [ $\bar{1}$ 10] directions. This phase was found to be robust with respect to small changes in stoichiometry, where the appearance of an additional BiSrCuO phase was observed. This minority phase had no major effect on the epitaxial alignment of the Bi2212 phase or the critical temperature of the thin-film sample.

Notes: Abstract Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O HTSC thin films were prepared from polymer metal precursors in a special annealing procedure. The precursor films can be patterned before the annealing process in which the superconducting phase is generated. We have investigated the patterning of precursor films by UV radiation, and the thermal degradation process by thermogravimetry and mass spectroscopy. The HTSC films were characterized by X-ray diffraction and electrical resistivity measurements.

Notes: Abstract. The solution deposition of YBa2Cu3O7-δ (Y123) high temperature superconducting thin films was studied. The films were prepared from a polymer-containing precursor onto SrTiO3 (001) and LaAlO3 (001) substrates and mineralized at high temperatures. The process depended on details of the film preparation in a delicate fashion, resulting either in superconducting or non-superconducting thin films. To elucidate this difference in conductivity, scanning electron microscopy and several X-ray diffraction techniques were used to characterize the resulting Y123 layers. Both the morphology of the film and the percentage of non-superconducting minority components are likely to be the origin of the difference in the conductance behavior at low temperatures.

Notes: Summary ESCA is used to characterize ion beam irradiated P(p-ClPhMA)-samples. The results show a chlorine abstraction. The experimental findings are in accordance with a recently proposed model for a crosslinking mechanism of halogenated aromatic polymers.

Notes: Summary A number of copolymers of methyl methacrylate and chlorophenyl methacrylates of different structure was prepared and analyzed by ultraviolet spectroscopy. It was found that the copolymer composition can be determined using a calibration curve based on mixtures of the appropriate homopolymers. The U. V. spectroscopical results are in good agreement with the chlorine analysis.

Notes: Abstract Polymer metal precursors are characterized by thermal degradation and mass spectrometric thermal analysis while the HTS phases are characterized by X-ray diffraction and measurements of the electrical resistance. It is to be assumed that the methacrylic acid groups of the polymer does not only form salts with the metal ions but also complexes.

Notes: Halogenophenol novolac (HPN)-based negative resists exhibit excellent sensitivity and pattern resolution properties. The HPNs act as synergists for crosslinking with other irradiation labile compounds such as naphthoquinone diazide and bisazide vs. hydrogen halide (HX) elimination reaction, resulting in additional crosslinking, probably by aryl radical recombination and/or addition. We describe a new resist formulation based on HPN binder and melamine crosslinker (Cymel 303). In this case the irradiation induced HX elimination additionally catalyzes the melamine crosslinking.
