Notes: Abstract The CO2-laser-induced infrared multiple photon decomposition of natural CBr2F2 in the presence of oxygen has been examined as a function of pulse number (30–1500), reactant pressures (CBr2F2, 10–150 Torr and O2, 5–90 Torr), laser line [9P(8)–9P(32)], and laser fluence (1–3 J cm−2) to optimize irradiation conditions for 13C-enrichment. CF2O was the main carbon containing product and afterwards was converted into CO2 via hydrolysis. A small amount of C2Br2F4 was detected only under extreme conditions, for example, at high laser fluences or wavenumbers close to an absorption band. The 13C-atom fraction of the final product CO2 was found to be 20–80%, depending on experimental conditions. The two-stage IRMPD process proposed previously has been examined in further detail in the present study. First, CBr2F2 containing about 30% of 13C was prepared in the 13C-selective IRMPD of natural CHClF2 in the presence of Br2. The second-stage IRMPD of the CBr2F2 in the presence of oxygen under selected conditions resulted in the high enrichment of 13C beyond 90%.

Notes: Summary We examined the effects of the recently developed calcium antagonist HA1077 on cerebral haemodynamics during the chronic stage of the two-haemorrhage canine model system of vasospasm. Regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF), regional cerebral blood velocity and regional cerebral blood volume in the canine parietal cortex were measured by Laser-doppler flowmeter. On the 7th day after the initial injection of autogenous blood, subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) produced a significant decrease in rCBF (59% of control, p〈0.05) and Hood velocity (48% of control, p〈0.05), with no remarkable change in blood volume (108% of control). Bolus intravenous administration of HA1077 (0.1–0.3 mg/kg) dose-dependently increased the rCBF and blood velocity, without significantly changing the blood volume on Day 7 after SAH. HA1077 improves haemodynamic function manifested by an increase in rCBF and velocity in this SAH model, and may be suitable for the treatment of vasospasm in patients with SAH.

Notes: Summary A computerized tomographic (CT) scanner system for intraoperative imaging is presented. The system consists of the following: 1) CT scanner with a mobile gantry, 2) digitally controlled operating table with central processing unit (CPU) and encoder unit; the table can be controlled by the scanner computer as accurately as the scanner bed, and 3) exclusively designed head fixation devices. It allows us to scan the patient on the operating table in the operating room pre-operatively, intra-operatively and immediately after surgery.

Notes: Summary Two children with congenital rubella virus and six with cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections, were examined by magnetic resonance (MR) and CT. Cranial MR imaging (MRI) with T2-weighted spin-echo (SE) and inversion recovery (IR) sequences demonstrated the following: periventricular hyperintensity (4), subcortical hyperintensity (5), delayed myelination (4), oligo/pachygyria (2), cerebellar hypoplasia (2). This study showed that the more-disabled children had more marked abnormal MRI findings. MRI was more effective in the detection of parenchymal lesion than was CT, although intraventricular calcification was better visualized with CT.

Notes: Abstract A 5-year-old male patient with asymptomatic optic neuritis and mumps postinfectious encephalitis or acute disseminated encephalomyelitis is reported. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with a short inversion time inversion recovery sequence was valuable in detecting clinically silent lesions of the unilateral right optic nerve in addition to visual evoked potentials. Evidence of concurrent optic neuritis was useful for detecting more extensive neurological involvement, leading to the diagnosis of mumps postinfectious encephalitis. A systmatic MRI study should be performed in children with mumps encephalitis, regardless of appreciable clinical deficits.

Notes: Abstract In a previous paper, we proposed the infinite sublayer quark model, in which there exists an infinite number of quarksu ∞ and antiquarksu ∞ c at an infinite sublayer level. By applying the standard model of the electroweak interactions to the weak isospin doublet (u ∞,u ∞ c ) T it is shown that there exists only one gauge fieldW µ 3 , from which the electromagnetic fieldA µ=W µ 3 cos θ w and the neutral vector boson fieldZ µ 0 =W µ 3 sin θ w are derived.
