Notes: Summary In this study we investigated the function of the obstructed small bowel of the rat, the behaviour of the mucosal enzymes, the metabolic changes of the small bowel wall and the morphology of the mucosa. We found a decrease of passive transport of3H-Antipyrine which was equal after 24 and 48 hrs. The active transport of14C-Glucose was found to be progressively inhibited after occlusion. The metabolic enzymes SDH, G-6-PDH, and GOT remained unchanged, LDH was increased after 48 hrs, which can be explained by enzyme induction. The lactate-pyruvate ratio in the tissue of the obstructed bowel was 3 times as high as in the controls. The brush-border enzymes maltase and especially the alcaline phosphatase are decreased with progressive obstruction, which probably is caused by diffusion into the lumen. By electron-microscopy there are no changes in the brush-border membrane but a swelling of mitochondria which is caused by hypoxia.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary Measurements of the rate of incorporation of radioactively labeled nucleic acid precursors into the DNA and RNA of gastric carcinoma cell suspensions indicated variable rates of proliferation for the tumors. The rate of incorporation generally correlates to the cytological level of differentiation of the carcinoma. Reduced differentiation of the tumors showed a corresponding increase in the rate of proliferation. Knowing the proliferation-dependent effect of most cytostatica, this results in a resistance to cytostatica of highly differentiated gastric cancers. The nucleic acid synthesis of proliferatively active tumors could only be partially inhibited by the cytostatica tested (5-fluorouracil, adriamycin). Carcinomas with metabolic possibility for compensation of the active mechanism of the cytostatica were biochemically resistant. Due to the resulting methodical problems and unaccountable patient-dependent causes of resistance, a conclusive statement about cytostatica-sensitive tumors is difficult to make in incorporation studies.

Notes: Abstract Precise energies and intensities of about 450γ-rays of the197Au(n, γ)198Au reaction have been investigated in the energy range from 30 keV to 1 MeV with a bentcrystal spectrometer. Prompt and delayedγ-γ coincidences have been studied with Ge(Li) detectors. A half-life of 124±4 ns has been measured for the state at 312.036 keV, which is found to decay to the ground state through the cascade 97.195–214.841 keV. A new level scheme based on these results has been constructed which contains 160 transitions. Spin and parity assignments have been made for most of the levels.

Notes: Abstract The transitional nucleus152Eu has been studied using the (n, e), (n, γ), (n res,γ), (n, γγ), (d, p), (d, t) and (p, d) reactions. The experiments have been performed at nine different laboratories. A model independent level scheme was established including 95 levels below 510 keV and nearly 900 transitions by combination of low energy transitions and reaction data. More than 20 additional levels result from gamma rays and/or charged particle reactions. The level scheme is interpreted in terms of the Nilsson model indicating that152Eu is a deformed nucleus. Seven rotational bands and Nilsson configurations are established. An additional 27 rotational bands are tentatively or speculatively assugned. Gallagher-Moszkowski splittings are discussed. The neutron binding energy was determined as 6305.2±0.5 keV. The energy of the 9.3 h 0− isomer is 45.599 keV. The lifetimes of four levels were measured.
