Zusammenfassung In Modell- und In vivo-Untersuchungen wird die Frage studiert, welchen Schutz gegenüber den verschiedenen Pestiziden das Tragen von Schutzhandschuhen bietet. Die Autoren kommen zu der Feststellung, da\ zahlreiche Pflanzenschutzmittel das Handschuhmaterial in verschiedenem Grade durchdringen; der Grad der Penetration ist eine Funktion mannigfaltiger Faktoren. Die Ergebnisse deuten darauf hin, da\ die Exposition aller Wahrscheinlichkeit nach beim Mensch nicht die zur Hervorrufung akuter Vergiftungen erforderliche Konzentration erreicht, doch darf das Faktum der Mikroexposition — vor allem im Falle persistenter und kumulierender Mittel — nicht au\er acht gelassen werden. Im Spiegel der Untersuchungen ist es angebracht, eine Versorgung mit optimalem Schutz gewÄhrenden Handschuhen anzustreben.

Summary Many countries have legislation on the wearing of the necessary protective clothing by people working with pesticides, for the toxicity of different pesticides is an important issue in occupational safety. In this kind of work the part of the body most exposed is the hand. Our investigations were designed to find out what protection safety gloves give against different pesticides. For our investigations we used a model device and laboratory animals. The results show that safety gloves do not give complete protection in every case. The degree of permeability depends on various factors; the effects of exposure may vary according to the material and the thickness of the gloves, the concentration of the pesticide used, the temperature and the length of time the gloves have already been in use. The higher the concentration is, for instance, the greater the permeation will be. Therefore weaker solutions are less harmful. The higher the temperature, the more intensive the diffusion of the toxic substances will be. Nor can climatic factors be ignored. If contact between the chemicals and the surface of the gloves is continues over a long period harmful exposure becomes more likely. For this reason long working hours should to be avoided and facilities should be installed for the workpeople to wash their gloves frequently. According to the investigations using the model device, exposure is unlikely to result in acute intoxication. In most eases exposure results in a subtoxic process. Subtoxic exposure should be treated with caution, especially where persistent and cumulative chemicals are concerned. These investigations indicate that every effort should be made to attain maximum protection. The results are presented in figures and tables. The following pesticides were used for these investigations: Novenda (DNOC), Kresonit (DNOC), Sevtox (DNBP), Aretit (DNBP-acetate).
