Notes: Das Braunkohlenteerxylenol enthält außer den einwertigen Phenolen, über die in den beiden vorhergehenden Mitteilungen berichtet wurde, auch Phenoläther. Es wurden sowohl Monomethyläther zweiwertiger Phenole als auch neutrale Äther einwertiger Phenole festgestellt. Von Monomethyläthern zweiwertiger Phenole wurden Guajacol, Kreosol und Isokreosol nachgewiesen. Von den neutralen Äthern einwertiger Phenole wurden die Methyläther des 1,2,4- und 1,3,5-Xylenols und des p-Äthyl-phenols, sowie der Äthyläther des 1,2,4-Xylenols identifiziert. Nahezu 82% der Bestandteile des Braunkohlenteerxylenols konnten aufgeklärt werden.

Notes: Der nach verschiedenen Verfahren dargestellte β-Mercaptozimtsäureäthylester wurde eingehend untersucht. So wurde die Gleichgewichtslage Thioenol/Thioketon bestimmt, die Oxydation des Thioenols zum Disulfid und die Umsetzungen des Natrium-β-mercaptozimtsäureäthylesters mit Alkyl- und Acylhalogeniden durchgeführt. Ferner wurde versucht, die Farberscheinungen, die nicht nur bei der Thioketoform, sondern auch bei den aus β-Mercaptozimtsäureäthylester erhaltenen Thioäthern auftreten, zu deuten.

Notes: Es wurden eine Reihe Iso-Fettsäuren mit 12-18 C-Atomen im Molekül auf ihre Verwendbarkeit bei der Seifenherstellung untersucht im Vergleich mit ihren zugehörigen n-Fettsäuren. Ausgewählt wurden substituierte Fettsäuren, die auch als Dialkylessigsäuren bezeichnet werden. Sie zeigen keinerlei Merkmale, die ihre Verwendung in den Seifen ausschließen, lediglich ist die Möglichkeit des Aussalzens bei einigen Isosäuren wegen der leichten Löslichkeit ihrer Na-Salze nicht gegeben.Parachor und Molrefraktionen verhalten sich völlig normal, sie erfahren bei Einführung eines Substituenten in die jeweiligen Fettsäuren oder bei dessen Verlängerung eine Erhöhung der zugehörigen Werte um die bekannten Inkremente für jede CH2-Gruppe; obwohl von anderen Autoren an Kohlenwasserstoffen anders geartete Beobachtungen gemacht worden waren.Die Bindungszustände in den Isosäuren bleiben also stets die gleichen und ändern sich auch bei längstmöglicher Verzweigung nicht. Eine Konstitutionsermittlung an diesen Fettsäuren mit Hilfe von Parachor und Molrefraktion ist deswegen nicht möglich, weil diese Kriterien für die n-Fettsäuren und ihre Isomeren konstant bleiben.Es erscheint daher wünschenswert, die Befunde an den Iso-Kohlenwasserstoffen notwendigerweise einer Überprüfung zu unterziehen.

Notes: Die Viskosität von Lösungen des sogenannten KURROLschen Kaliumsalzes (KPO3)x ist nicht nur abhängig von den Herstellungsbedingungen, insbesondere der Temperaturführung, sowie vom genauen Molverhältnis K2O:P2O5 des Ausgangsmaterials und - hierdurch bedingt - vom Grad der Vernetzung der Polyphosphatketten, sondern auch von der Anwesenheit geringer Verunreinigungen. So läßt sich der höchstviskose Typ nur aus völlig arsenfreien Ausgangsprodukten darstellen. Arsen (V) wird in die Polyphosphatanionen eingebaut. Beim Behandeln mit Wasser hydrolysiert Arsen (V) momentan als Orthoarsenat heraus, wodurch Kettenbruch eintritt, und man erhält Lösungen von geringerer Viskosität, was schon merklich ist, wenn auf 106 Atome P 1 Atom Arsen kommt. Hieraus wird geschlossen, daß der durchschnittliche Kondensationsgrad der Polyphosphatanionen im höchstviskosen KURROLschen Kaliumsalz mindestens von der Größenordnung 106 sein muß.

Notes: Es wird eine Methode beschrieben, nach der Kadmium mit Hilfe von Kaliumferrocyanid nephelometrisch bestimmt werden kann. Das Verfahren eignet sich ganz besonders für sehr geringe Kadmiummengen (50 bis 200 γ). Die Bestimmung ist in vereinfachter Form nur in Gegenwart der Alkalien, Erdalkalien und häufigsten Anionen möglich; bei Anwesenheit von Schwermetallen ist eine vorherige Abtrennung des Kadmiums, z. B. mit Dithizon erforderlich.

Notes: Im System Aceton-Benzol werden bei 20 und 30° C und im System Aceton-Wasser bei 20° C die Mischungswärmen gemessen und daraus die mittleren und partiellen molaren Mischungsenthalpien ermittelt sowie die geringe Abweichung der Molwärme der etwa äquimolaren Aceton-Benzol-Mischung vom Idealwert berechnet. Zur Trocknung des Acetons erweist sich nur P2O5 als geeignet. Im System Aceton-Wasser wird entgegen den bisherigen Literaturangaben ein Konzentrationsgebiet mit positiven Mischungs-enthalpien nachgewiesen.Mittels eines Titrationsverfahrens und refraktometrischer Analyse wird die Mischungslücke mit ihren Konoden im ternären System Aceton-Benzol-Wasser ermittelt und die Verteilungskurve von Aceton zwischen Benzol und Wasser berechnet.

Notes: Tetrahydrothiophen und hieraus dargestellte Abkömmlinge sind bislang einer Untersuchung noch nicht unterzogen worden. Bei der leichten Zugänglichkeit dieser Verbindung aus dem großtechnisch gewonnenen Tetrahydrofuran überrascht diese Tatsache. Wir haben uns der Aufgabe unterzogen, das Tetrahydrothiophen einigen chemischen Reaktionen zu unterwerfen und die geeignet erscheinenden Substanzen auf eine praktische Verwendungsmöglichkeit hin zu prüfen. - Die Chlorierung des Tetrahydrothiophens läßt sich derart lenken, daß entweder Hexachlortetrahydrothiophen, Tetrachlortetrahydrothiophen oder trennbare isomere Dichlorthiophene erhalten werden können. Bei Einwirkung von Chlor in wässeriger Essigsäure tritt dagegen Ringspaltung ein. Umsetzungen mit Brom führen nur zu einem instabilen Addukt. - Alkylhalogenide werden von Tetrahydrothiophen addiert. - Die Dehydrierung des Tetrahydrothiophens ist schwierig und ergibt nur geringe Ausbeuten. Schwefel ist als Dehydrierungskatalysator noch am günstigsten. - Die Darstellung einiger Derivate der 2,5-Tetrahydrothiophendicarbonsäure wird weiterhin beschrieben. - Unter besonderen Bedingungen findet bei der Einwirkung aggressiver Agentien auf Tetrahydrothiophen Ringsprengung statt; solche Reaktionen sowie die hierbei erhaltenen Substanzen werden untersucht. - Tetrachlortetrahydrothiophen erwies sich in biologischen Versuchen als von guter toxischer Wirkung auf verschiedene Schadinsekten. Über diese Versuche und andere zur Zeit noch nicht abgeschlossen wird zur späteren Zeit an anderer Stelle berichtet werden.

Die Produkte können als Katalysatoren für Reaktionen bei höheren Temperaturen mit Erfolg eingesetzt werden.

Notes: Nach einleitenden Bemerkungen über eine frühere Arbeit wird über eine neu erbaute Apparatur zur Herstellung homogener Nickel-Magnesium-Mischformiate berichtet. Diese Mischsalze werden im Wasserstoffstrom reduziert und sind gute Hydrierkatalysatoren; sie ergeben bei der Hydrierung von Cyclohexen bessere Aktivitäten als Raney-Nickel. Durch Ultraschallbehandlung des reduzierten Katalysators kann die Hydrieraktivität noch weiter gesteigert werden. Der nach längerer Zeit inaktiv gewordene Katalysator läßt sich durch erneute Reduktion leicht regenerieren.

Notes: Die polarographische Untersuchung des Antibioticums Xanthocillin ergab zwei charakteristische Stufen bei -1,97V und -2,23V gegen die Normalcalomelelektrode in m/10 Tetraäthylammoniumhydroxydlösung, die sich zu seiner quantitativen Bestimmung eignen. Notes: Es wurde an Hand der Hexadekanmolekel als Beispiel festgestellt, daß die Netz- und Schaumwirkung, die entfettende Wirkung bei der Wollwäsche und die Wirkung bei der Weißwäsche (Baumwollwäsche) von Monosulfonaten mit einheitlichem hydrophoben Rest von der Stellung der Sulfogruppe in der Molekel abhängt.Die Netz-, Schaum- und Entfettungswirkungen, die fast immer im Zusammenhang stehen, werden bei Verwendung des Hexadecylrestes als hydrophobem Anteil immer günstiger, je weiter sich die Sulfonatgruppe gegen die Molekelmitte verschiebt.Demgegenüber nimmt die Weißwaschwirkung mit Verschiebung der hydrophilen Gruppe nach dem Molekelinneren ab.

Notes: Bei der Reaktion zwischen Furfurol und Acrylnitril findet keine Cyanäthylierung statt, sondern eine Umsetzung der Aldehydgruppe des Furfurols mit der Nitrilgruppe des Acrylnitrils unter Bildung von cis- und trans-N-[Furfuryliden-(2)]-acrylsäureamid. Durch Isolierung der wichtigsten Nebenprodukte wurde der Reaktionsverlauf weitgehend aufgeklärt. Die Umsetzung scheint über tautomere Säureamide (vor allem tautomeres Hydracrylsäureamid) zu erfolgen, die aus den entsprechenden Nitrilen (äthylencyanhydrin) durch Anlagerung von Wasser an die CN-Gruppe entstehen. N-Furfuryliden-acrylsäureamid ist relativ unbeständig. Bei allen versuchten Reaktionen sowohl im alkalischen als auch im sauren Medium bildeten sich unter Umlagerung und Austritt von 1 Molekül Wasser stets Derivate des 2-[Furfuryliden-(2)]-propionitrils. Es wurden speziell untersucht: die Anlagerung von p-Thiokresol und Piperidin, die Nitrierung, Ringaufspaltung, Bromierung und Hydrierung.

Notes: Unter den Oligomeren der Methylsiloxane gibt es nur wenige, die sich als chemisch definierte Individuen gewinnen lassen, weil sie in Polymerengemischen in verhältnismäßig geringer Menge vorliegen und erst nach Anreicherung durch zeitraubende, sorgfältige Fraktionierverfahren erhalten werden können. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird über die Isolierung und Identifizierung einer bisher noch nicht erfaßten Verbindung, des Tetrakis(trimethylsiloxy-)silans, [(CH3)3SiO]4Si, berichtet, das bei der gleichzeitigen Hydrolyse und Kondensation von Tetrachlor- und Trimethylchlorsilan-Gemischen in geringer Ausbeute neben undefinierten Polymeren entsteht.

Notes: Zur Klärung der Anodenvorgänge bei der elektrochemischen „Perfluorierung“ organischer Substanzen nach Simons werden niedere Carbonsäuren in HF bis zur Stufe der Monofluorierung elektrolysiert. Die Ergebnisse zeigen den komplexen Charakter der Anodenprozesse und erlauben erstmalig ihre näherungsweise Abgrenzung.Der Einfluß von Wasser auf die Elektrofluorierung und ein möglicher Angriff des Anodenmaterials wird erörtert. Die auch in reinen Elektrolyten beobachteten und bisher nicht erklärten geringen Fluorausbeuten werden auf mehrere Ursachen zurückgeführt: Sprengung von C—C-Bindungen bei der Sekundärreaktion; Instabilität einzelner Fluorierungsprodukte; anodische Oxydation der zu fluorierenden organischen Verbindung; durch die bisherige Bauart der Zellen bedingte anodische Rückbildung von HF infolge Anwesenheit des kathodisch entwickelten Wasserstoffs an der Anode.

Darauf lässt sich ein indirekter Nachweis von Ephedrin und Adrenalin begründen. Bei Verwertung der Löslichkeitsunterschiede der beiden Alkaloide in Äther gelangt man zu einem spezifischen Nachweis von Ephedrin. Für den Nachweis von Adrenalin wird dessen Redoxreaktion mit o-Dinitro-benzol empfohlen, die zu einem violetten Produkt führt. Sämtliche Nachweise sind in Form von Tropfenreaktionen ausführbar.

Zur Überprüfung und Ergänzung der spez. Drehungen und UV.-Absorptionsspektren wurden die bekannten raumisomeren Säuren, resp. ihre Methylester und deren Acetylderivate nochmals hergestellt und ihre molekularen Drehungen und UV.-Spektren miteinander verglichen. Die Konstitution der in diesen Reaktionen auftretenden, zum Teil noch unbekannten krist. Nebenprodukte wurde aufgeklärt.

Notes: Zum Zwecke der Radiumanalyse wurde die emanometrische Messung für Radiumemanation mit der Zählmethodik für feste radiumhaltige Präparate am Stirnfensterzählrohr verglichen. Beide Verfahren ergeben recht gute Übereinstimmung. Für feste Präparate erwies sich ein Zusatz von inaktivem Bariumsulfat zum Radiumsalz zu konstantem Probengewicht von 8 mg/cm2 unter guter Durch mischung als zweckmässig. Für andere Gewichte der Mischproben wurden die Umrechnungsfaktoren festgelegt.

After two hours incubation the isolated fatty acids deriving from fatty liver slices showed lower activities as those from normal livers. Notes: Substituted iminodiacetic acids of the general formula R—N(CH2-COOH)2 have been synthesized and their coordination tendency with 12 different metal cations investigated. The groups R of the 13 different complexing agents are tabulated on page 1147-1148 of this paper. Most of them carry donor atoms in such a position, that a third chelate ring may be formed when the anion of the iminodiacetic acid combines with the metal. It could be proved that the oxygen, the sulfur and the nitrogen atom of aliphatically bound HO—, CH3O—, HS—, CH3S—, (-)S—, NH2—, (-)OOC—, H2N—CO— are actually coordinated in this manner, raising thereby the stability of the metal complex considerably. The carbonamide group coordinates probably by its oxygen atom rather than by its nitrogen atom. The negatively charged mercaptide sulfur is a very powerful donor for the heavy metals and there is a linear relation between the logarithm of the solubility product of the metal sulfide and the logarithm of the stability constant of the metal complex of (-)S—CH2—CH2—N(CH2—COO(-))2. The trimethylammonium group in of course lowers the complex stability, its effect however is much less important than expected. Also the cyano group in NC—CH2-N(CH2-COO(-))2 weakens the metal binding much less than the addition of the proton to the nitrogen of the iminodiacetate group.

Notes: Four hydrates of sodium lanthanum ethylenediamine-tetraacetate have been isolated. Na[LaY],3H2O crystallizes at 50°, Na[LaY],8H2O at 35° and Na[LaY],9H2O at 25°. A hexahydrate, Na[LaY],6H2O, has also been obtained, but the conditions for its formation are not yet well established. The complexes of Ce, Pr, Nd and Sm appear so far to crystallize only as octahydrates, Na[RY],8H2O; they are isomorphous with Na[LaY],8H2O. The octahydrates are orthorhombic pyramidal and therefore piezoelectric. On heating, all the hydrates easily loose water; the anhydrous compounds are stable up to 350°. With exception for the lanthanum salt, our solubility data are in good agreement with the values published by Marsh.

Samenprobe von Eritrea: Coroglaucigenin (0,437%), Frugosid (0,0224%), Corotoxigenin (0,00665%) und ein neuer krist. Stoff, der Subst. B (0,00103%) genannt wird. Ein weiterer Stoff, der Subst. D genannt wird, konnte bisher nicht kristallisiert, sondern nur stark angereichert werden. 2. Samenprobe aus Nyassaland: Frugosid (0,231%), Subst. B (0,00082%) und ein Stoff, der höchstwahrscheinlich mit Calotropin (0,00094%) identisch ist. Subst. B zeigt im Papier-chromatogramm andere Laufstrecken als die verglichenen krist. Stoffe des Milchsafts von C. procera und gigantea von G. Hesse und Mitarb. Dabei zeigte sich, dass die letzteren Substanzen sich zum Teil im Papierchromatogramm nicht völlig einheitlich verhalten.

Notes: Stepwise oxidative degradation of abietic acid (IV) leads to the stereoisomeric acids (+)-trans-[2-methyl-2-carboxy-cyclohexyl-(1)]-acetic acid (XIV) and (-)-cis-[2-methyl-2-carboxy-cyclohexyl-(1)]-acetic acid (XV). Since the dextrorotatory acid XIV had already been obtained from ergosterol D (XVI), this result represents a further proof of the stereochemical identity of C-10 in the steroids and the cyclic di- and triterpenes.

Notes: In continuation of our earlier work certain fungi were detected which are capable of hydroxylating steroids at further carbon atoms of the nucleus. These microbiological procedures have made possible the preparation of new cortexone derivatives with an additional hydroxyl group in 7α-, 15α- or 15β-position. The elucidation of the constitution of these compounds by degradation and chemical connection with known steroids has been accomplished. From the molecular rotation differences observed the configuration of 2α, 3β, 15α-trihydroxy-5α, 22 a-spirostane is suggested for digitogenin.

Notes: In three series of solutions: HCl, an acetate buffer and a triethanolamine buffer, the solvent water has been replaced successively by ethanol. Hammett's acidity functions H0 and H- have been determined with an indicator of aniline type and an indicator of phenol type respectively. The indicators show a strong individual behaviour and the acidity function is by no means simply dependent on the charge type of the indicator used. The product of the proton activity and the activity coefficient of the chloride ion also has been determined in these solutions as well as the pH value, measured in a conventional manner using a cell with a liquid junction.
