Aus Eleutherine bulbosa wurde in kleiner Menge ein neuer Pflanzenstoff, Eleutherinol, isoliert. Eleutherinol-dimethyläther lieferte bei der alkalischen Spaltung neben Essigsäure und Aceton 1-Acetyl-2-oxy-3-methyl-6,8-dimethoxy-naphtalin und 2-Oxy-3-methyl-6,8-dimethoxy-naphtalin. Bleitetraacetat oxydierte letzteres zu 3-Methyl-6,8-dimethoxy-1,2-naphtochinon und zu 2-Oxy-3-methyl-6,8-dimethoxy-1,4-naphtochinon, welches sich mit dem aus 3-Methyl-6,8-dimethoxy-1,4-naphtochinon synthetisch hergestellten 2-Oxy-naphtochinon als identisch erwies. Eleutherinol besitzt daher die Konstitution des 2,3′-Dimethyl-6′,8′-dioxy-[naphto-1′,2′: 5,6-pyrons-(4)]; es stellt das erste natürliche Benzochromon-Derivat dar.
