Summary Over a long period 2 subjects were fed extremely low-fat/high carbohydrate and extremely high-fat/low carbohydrate diets (5–15% and 58–60% fat calories). The fat test meal (1 g of olive oil per kg body weight) was administered 3–4 times during each food period after a 12 hours' fasting. Cholesterolester, triglycerides, thrombocyte numbers, thrombelastogram, thromboplastin generation test, prothrombin, factors V and VII, antithrombin II and III and profibrinolytic potential were assessed in fasting state and 2 1/2, 5 and 24 hours after the ingestion of the test meal. The fasting state cholesterol level is significantly lower, the fasting state triglyceride level significantly higher with low-fat than with high-fat diet. With high-fat diet the triglyceride level assessed after the fat test meal is duplicated compared to the fasting state level. In spite of these findings none of the examined coagulation factors shows (in fasting state or after the fat test meal) statistically significant changes caused by the basic food.
Notes:
