Description / Table of Contents: Summary By means of the differential equations of curl and divergence of horizontal turbulent motion of air and the equation of continuity an approaching vertical motion is determined in dependance of pressure changes the temporal variation of which is supposed as a vertically decreasing oscillation (with regard to different frequencies ω). In all calculated cases the vertical motion of the troposphere is modified by friction in a high degree (varying with ω). With many, especially the smaller frequencies ω of realized magnitude vertical velocity of the lower troposphere consists prevailingly of that part which would not arise without additional stress components of turbulent motion. In this way friction at the earth's surface is able to influence essentially the vertical motion and by it the air currents and pressure changes in all levels.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary The equations concerning the micro- and macroturbulent «austausch» and transport of water in its three phases are represented by using weighted vectors of instantaneous and average velocities. Usual defects in treating the eddy diffusion of water vapour next to the bottom by applying the theory ofWilhelm Schmidt are discussed as well as some problems in the estimation of evaporation minus precipitation of large areas from the transport of water in the atmosphere.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary At the equator vertical variations of a frictionless and unaccelerated wind are caused by the meridional distribution of temperature in a similar way as in higher latitudes. Nevertheless there cannot be expected any deviation of the wind vector with high since only pure zonal winds free of acceleration may be possible around the equator and in its neighbourhood.

Notes: Summary The clinical symptoms of floride Cytomegalovirus infections of 18 previously healthly adults are reported. Fever was generally observed. In most cases myocarditis or hepatitis could be identified. Two of our patients died of on severe myocarditis. In 3 patients Guillain-Barré-syndrome was observed. Only in few of our cases the clinical picture was characterized by mononucleosis with systemic swelling of lymphnodes and thrombocytopenia or by pneumonia. Other symptoms were found quite seldom. The diagnosis of cytomegalovirus infection could be ascertained by: 1. detection of cytomegalovirus IgM antibody titers of 〉1:64, 2. a four fold increase in the titer of complement fixing antibodies, 3. Virus isolation from urine.

Notes: Summary In 1984 10,281 sera were collected in the FRG and examined for antibodies to HTLV-III (LAV) with an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and confirmative tests. Of the German AIDS patients 81% have antibodies. Individuals belonging to AIDS risk groups, homosexuals, haemophiliacs and i.v. drug abusers, have antibody frequencies between 25%–72%. The detection of HTLV-III antibodies in blood donours indicates that the virus is being transmitted by blood transfusions.

Notes: Summary A 39-year-old male with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia confirmed by tissue culture suffered from mild aortic insufficiency and valvular stenosis with a gradient of 20 mm Hg across the aortic valve. Plasmapheresis carried out every 2 weeks for 4 years resulted in a marked reduction in the serum cholesterol level and in a regression of the valvular stenosis, as shown by echocardiography and by left heart catheter.

Notes: Summary Coronavirus-like particles were identified by electronmicroscopy in the feces of homosexual men. The particles banded at a density of 1.21 g/ml after cesium chloride density gradient centrifugation. To determine whether the presence of this virus might be related to clinical symptoms, several patient groups were studied prospectively. In 8 of 16 (50%) homosexual males with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) or unexplained lymphadenopathy syndrome (LAS), coronavirus particles were found. In contrast, such particles were found in none of 18 heterosexual controls and in only 3 of 20 homosexual males without AIDS or LAS. Thus, coronavirus excretion correlated significantly (2α〈0.01) with the clinical diagnosis of AIDS or with syndromes belonging to the AIDS-related complex. In addition, such particles identified in the serum of one patient with LAS and diarrhea suggest invasion and systemic spread of the agent and underline that this virus behaves differently from “common cold” human coronaviruses.
