Pleomorphe Gliome bzw.
Notes: Summary In the present study the topochemical distribution of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) as well as the electrophoretic characteristics of their isoenzymes of 84 human brain tumors and 12 experimental rat gliomas were investigated comparatively. The enzyme topochemical results show that well differentiated gliomas (oligodendrogliomas I, astrocytomas I) are characterized by an equally distributed LDH activity (“enzymatic isochromia”) over the whole tissue section. On the other hand pleomorphic gliomas and glioblastomas are marked by a clearly perceptible individual cell enzyme variability (“enzymatic anisochromia”). With regards to the distribution of LDH isoenzymes it was found that not only does the LDH isoenzymatic pattern of glial tumors clearly differ from that of normal frontal brain, but there are besides statistically proved differences among the different types of gliomas. Well differentiated gliomas are characterized by a predominance of anodic LDH fractions and a high percentage of H-monomers associated with a corresponding high H/M ratio. In contrast to the above mentioned gliomas, in pleomorphic gliomas and glioblastomas a high activity of cathodic LDH-fractions and a low percentage of H-monomers resulting in an equally low H/M ratio could be recognized. The present enzymological findings clearly indicate that well defined enzyme topochemical and isoenzyme electrophoretical investigations can contribute to an objectification of the status of neurogenic tumors.

Notes: Summary Primary tumors of the nervous system in rats induced by weekly administration of 6 mg/kg N-methylnitrosourea and spontaneous human brain tumors were investigated comparatively using immunoprecipitation technique. It is shown that two proteins antigenically identical with the specific glia proteins S100 and 14.3.2 are present in spontaneous as well as in experimental gliomas and schwannomas. These results demonstrate that the model of experimental tumors of the nervous system in rats is practicable for comparative morphological and biochemical studies of tumors of glial and schwann cell origin.
