Notes: We have observed intrinsic Josephson effects for current flow perpendicular to the CuO2 planes in HTSC thin films. Tl-Ba-Ca-Cu-O thin films were deposited on step edges in LaAlO3 substrates. Due to the special preparation process, microbridges across such steps act as stacks of intrinsic Josephson junctions with current flow perpendicular to the CuO2 planes (STEP STACK junctions). Up to 130 individual junctions could be observed exhibiting high IcRN products up to 26 mV per junction. We observed ac-Josephson effects as Shapiro steps and in microwave emission experiments. At low temperatures sharp emission peaks were detected at frequencies of 11.3 and 24.2 GHz. Broad emission peaks from the whole stack were observed at temperatures close to Tc. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: The self-aligned in-line technique has been applied to the preparation of ultrasmall low-capacitance metallic tunnel junctions. By using e-beam lithography the area of Al/AlOx/Al contacts has so far been reduced to less than 0.005 μm2. At low temperatures high-ohmic double junctions with a small metallic island between them show the Coulomb blockade effect. The current through such a device could be modulated by a voltage applied to a gate electrode capacitively coupled to the island (single-electron transistor). Both single-charge phenomena have been observed at temperatures up to 1 K. © 1995 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Comparison of nucleotide sequences of the growth hormone gene of two populations of bleak from the Main Donau Rivers, Southern Germany, revealed an A/T point mutation resulting in an AluI restriction fragment length polymorphism. The frequencies of alleles T and A are 0–95/0–05 in the Donau and 0–62/0–38 in the Main.

Notes: RAPD (random amplified polymorphic DNA), RAMPO (random amplified microsatellite polymorphism), SCAR (sequence-characterized amplified regions), microsatellite markers and heteroduplex analysis were applied to differentiate bream (Abramis brama L.) populations from the rivers Main and Danube. Three molecular genetic markers were established; the frequencies of these markers and already established markers were estimated in three bream populations from the Danube River and two bream populations from the Main River. The results showed variation among populations from different river systems as well as variation among samples from the same river basin.

Notes: A G/T substitution has been found in a 462 bp fragment produced by random PCR amplification (RAPD) of genomic DNA in bleak (Alburnus alburnus). Two bleak populations from the rivers Main and Danube were screened for the two variants by allele-specific PCR. The allele frequencies were 0.62 and 0.31 for variant T, and 0.38 and 0.69 for variant G in the river populations of Main and Danube, respectively. Allele frequencies differed significantly (P 〈 0.01).

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung 1.
Notes: Abstract The (γ, n)-reactions on carbon and oxygen were studied using the 30,5 MeV brems-strahlung beam of the Heidelberg betatron. The photoneutrons were detected via the recoil protons in a stilbene scintillator. The pulse height spectrum of scintillations produced in the stilbene crystal by the recoil protons is analyzed to yield the incident neutron energy distribution. Theγ-ray and electron background was strongly reduced through pulse shape discrimination. To test the apparatus the spectrum of the neutrons from a Po-α-Be source was measured. The energy spectrum of the photo-neutrons from O16 shows clearly two peaks at excitation energies of 22,4 and 24,4 MeV also seen in the photo-proton spectra. The energy distribution of the neutrons from C12 (γ, n) too contains indication of structure already known from the proton spectra from C12 (γ, p). The derived cross sections of C12 (γ, n 0) and O16 (γ, n 0) coincide as well in their shape as in their absolute magnitude with the corresponding (γ, p 0)-cross sections. In both C12 (γ, n) and O16 (γ, n)-reaction the neutrons seem to leave the final nucleus mainly in its ground state.

Notes: Abstract Mass distributions of fission-like fragments from the system 271 MeV40Ar+165Ho have been measured as a function of the angle. An expected dependence of the mass distribution width on angle due to the claimed contribution of “fast fission” could not be observed.

    Notes: Abstract Using the atomic beam magnetic resonance method, precision measurements of the hyperfine structure and Zeeman interactions have been performed in the ground state 4f 126s 2 3 H 6 of167Er. The experimental data were analyzed using an effective operator parametrized in the space of states of the ground state multiplet. It yielded eight effective hyperfine structure and Zeeman interaction constants which served to calculate the seven hyperfine separations of the ground state. The results are: $$\begin{gathered} 2F 2F' v_{FF'} (MHz) \hfill \\ 5 7 - 354.371 9409 (27) \hfill \\ 7 9 - 2{\text{78}}{\text{.231}} {\text{8263(14)}} \hfill \\ {\text{9}} 11 - 69.050 7785 (4) \hfill \\ 11 13 + 302.735 3731(12) \hfill \\ 13 15 + 866.691 3871(10) \hfill \\ 15 17 + 1,652.383 5154 (6) \hfill \\ 17 19 + 2,689.380 8050(10) \hfill \\ \end{gathered}$$ From the effective Zeeman interaction constants it was possible to determine an improvedg I -value, uncorrected for atomic diamagnetism: $$ g_I = + 0.086 775 (19) \cdot 10^{ - 3}$$ Furthermore a hexadecapole interaction corresponding to a diagonal hexadecapole interaction constant $$A_4 = - 16 (10) Hz$$ could be established which is of the order of magnitude expected from Coulomb excitation experiments as well as theoretical calculations.

Notes: Abstract The neutrons from a Po-α-Be source were detected via the recoil protons in a stilbene scintillator. The pulse height spectrum of the scintillations produced in the stilbene crystal by the recoil protons is analysed to yield the incident neutron energy distribution. Theγ-ray background was eliminated through pulse shape discrimination. Separately the spectrum of neutrons coincident withγ-rays, i.e. of neutrons from the Be9(α,n)C12* reaction, has been determined. The resulting spectra are compared to previous measurements. The structure of the spectra is not compatible with an isotropic angular distribution of the neutrons relative to theα-direction. Furthermore it could be shown that the fraction of reactions leading to the 7,65 MeV state of C12 is only about 10−3.
