    Supporting Global Numerical Optimization of Rational Functions by Generic Symbolic Convexity Tests (2010)

    Description: Convexity is an important property in nonlinear optimization since it allows to apply efficient local methods for finding global solutions. We propose to apply symbolic methods to prove or disprove convexity of rational functions over a polyhedral domain. Our algorithms reduce convexity questions to real quantifier elimination problems. Our methods are implemented and publicly available in the open source computer algebra system REDUCE. Our long term goal is to integrate REDUCE as a workhorse'' for symbolic computations into a numerical solver.

    Fault-Tolerant and Decentralized Lease Coordination in Distributed Systems (2010)

    Description: Applications which need exclusive access to a shared resource in distributed systems require a fault-tolerant and scalable mechanism to coordinate this exclusive access. Examples of such applications include distributed file systems and master/slave data replication. We present Flease, an algorithm for decentralized and fault-tolerant lease coordination in distributed systems. Our algorithm allows the processes competing for a resource to coordinate exclusive access through leases among themselves without a central component. The resulting system easily scales with an increasing number of nodes and resources. We prove that Flease ensures exclusive access, i.e. guarantees that there is at most one valid lease at any time.

    Description: We propose an efficient column generation method to minimize the probability of delay propagations along aircraft rotations. In this way, delay resistant schedules can be constructed. Computational results for large-scale real-world problems demonstrate substantial punctuality improvements.     State Trajectory Compression for Optimal Control with Parabolic PDEs (2010)

    Description: In optimal control problems with nonlinear time-dependent 3D PDEs, full 4D discretizations are usually prohibitive due to the storage requirement. For this reason gradient and quasi-Newton methods working on the reduced functional are often employed. The computation of the reduced gradient requires one solve of the state equation forward in time, and one backward solve of the adjoint equation. The state enters into the adjoint equation, again requiring the storage of a full 4D data set. We propose a lossy compression algorithm using an inexact but cheap predictor for the state data, with additional entropy coding of prediction errors. As the data is used inside a discretized, iterative algorithm, lossy coding maintaining an error bound is sufficient.

    A simple mathematical model of the bovine estrous cycle: follicle development and endocrine interactions (2010)

    Description: Bovine fertility is the subject of extensive research in animal sciences, especially because fertility of dairy cows has declined during the last decades. The regulation of estrus is controlled by the complex interplay of various organs and hormones. Mathematical modeling of the bovine estrous cycle could help in understanding the dynamics of this complex biological system. In this paper we present a mathematical model of the bovine estrous cycle that includes the processes of follicle and corpus luteum development and the key hormones that interact to control these processes. Focus in this paper is on development of the model, but also some simulation results are presented, showing that a set of equations and parameters is obtained that describes the system consistent with empirical knowledge. Even though the majority of the mechanisms that are included are only known qualitatively as stimulatory or inhibitory effects, the model surprisingly well features quantitative observations made in reality. This model of the bovine estrous cycle could be used as a basis for more elaborate models with the ability to study effects of external manipulations and genetic differences.

    Rapid Learning for Binary Programs (2010)

    Description: Learning during search allows solvers for discrete optimization problems to remember parts of the search that they have already performed and avoid revisiting redundant parts. Learning approaches pioneered by the SAT and CP communities have been successfully incorporated into the SCIP constraint integer programming platform. In this paper we show that performing a heuristic constraint programming search during root node processing of a binary program can rapidly learn useful nogoods, bound changes, primal solutions, and branching statistics that improve the remaining IP search.

    Models for Line Planning with Transfers (2010)

    Description: We propose a novel integer programming approach to transfer minimization for line planning problems in public transit. The idea is to incorporate penalties for transfers that are induced by “connection capacities” into the construction of the passenger paths. We show that such penalties can be dealt with by a combination of shortest and constrained shortest path algorithms such that the pricing problem for passenger paths can be solved efficiently. Connection capacity penalties (under)estimate the true transfer times. This error is, however, not a problem in practice. We show in a computational comparison with two standard models on a real-world scenario that our approach can be used to minimize passenger travel and transfer times for large-scale line planning problems with accurate results.

    Adaptive Timestep Control for the Contact-Stabilized Newmark Method (2010)

    Description: The aim of this paper is to devise an adaptive timestep control in the contact--stabilized Newmark method (CONTACX) for dynamical contact problems between two viscoelastic bodies in the framework of Signorini's condition. In order to construct a comparative scheme of higher order accuracy, we extend extrapolation techniques. This approach demands a subtle theoretical investigation of an asymptotic error expansion of the contact--stabilized Newmark scheme. On the basis of theoretical insight and numerical observations, we suggest an error estimator and a timestep selection which also cover the presence of contact. Finally, we give a numerical example.

    Railway capacity auctions with dual prices (2010)

    Description: Railway scheduling is based on the principle of the construction of a conflict-free timetable. This leads to a strict definition of capacity: in contrast with road transportation, it can be said in advance whether a given railway infrastructure can accommodate - at least in theory - a certain set of train requests. Consequently, auctions for railway capacity are modeled as auctions of discrete goods -- the train slots. We present estimates for the efficiency gain that may be generated by slot auctioning in comparison with list price allocation. We introduce a new class of allocation and auction problems, the feasible assignment problem, that is a proper generalization of the well-known combinatorial auction problem. The feasible assignment class was designed to cover the needs for an auction mechanism for railway slot auctions, but is of interest in its own right. As a practical instance to state and solve the railway slot allocation problem, we present an integer programming formulation, briefly the ACP, which turns out to be an instance of the feasible assignment problem and whose dual problem yields prices that can be applied to define a useful activity rule for the linearized version of the Ausubel Milgrom Proxy auction. We perform a simulation aiming to measure the impact on efficiency and convergence rate.

    Aggregation Methods for Railway Networks (2010)

    Description: In this paper a bottom-up approach of automatic simplification of a railway network is presented. Starting from a very detailed, microscopic level, as it is used in railway simulation, the network is transformed by an algorithm to a less detailed level (macroscopic network), that is sufficient for long-term planning and optimization. In addition running and headway times are rounded to a pre-chosen time discretization by a special cumulative method, which we will present and analyse in this paper. After the transformation we fill the network with given train requests to compute an optimal slot allocation. Then the optimized schedule is re-transformed into the microscopic level and can be simulated without any conflicts occuring between the slots. The algorithm is used to transform the network of the very dense Simplon corridor between Swiss and Italy. With our aggregation it is possible for the first time to generate a profit maximal and conflict free timetable for the corridor across a day by a simultaneously optimization run.

    Merging solutions of non-linear algebraic systems (2010)

    Description: In solving large polynomial algebraic systems that are too big for standard Gröbner basis techniques one way to make progress is to introduce case distinctions. This divide and conquer technique can be beneficial if the algorithms and computer programs know how to take advantage of inequalities. A further hurdle is the form of the resulting general solutions which often have unnecessarily many branches. In this paper we discuss a procedure to merge solutions by dropping inequalities which are associated with them and, if necessary, by re-parametrizing solutions. In the appendix the usefulness of the procedure is demonstrated in the classification of quadratic Hamiltonians with a Lie-Poisson bracket $e(3)$. This application required the solution of algebraic systems with over 200 unknowns, 450 equations and between 5000 and 9000 terms.

    Description: Wir stellen in dieser Arbeit ein mathematisches Optimierungsmodell zur Bestimmung eines optimalen Linienplans vor, das sowohl die Fahrzeiten und die Anzahl der Umstiege berücksichtigt als auch die Kosten des Liniennetzes. Dieses Modell deckt wichtige praktische Anforderungen ab, die in einem gemeinsamen Projekt mit den Verkehrsbetrieben in Potsdam (ViP) formuliert wurden. In diesem Projekt wurde der Linienplan 2010 für Potsdam entwickelt. Unsere Berechnungen zeigen, dass die mathematische Optimierung in nichts einer "Handplanung" des Liniennetzes nachsteht. Im Gegenteil, mit Hilfe des Optimierungsprogramms ist es möglich, durch Veränderung der Parameter mehrere verschiedene Szenarien zu berechnen, miteinander zu vergleichen und Aussagen über minimale Kosten und Fahrzeiten zu machen.

    Description: The paper gathers evidence showing different dimensions of the game of Go: the continuous and discrete nature of the game and different types of relations between state variables happening on ultra local, local, regional, and global scales. Based on these observations a new continuous local model for describing a board position is introduced. This includes the identification of the basic variables describing a board position and the formulation and solution of a dynamical system for their computation. To be usable as a static evaluation function for a game playing program at least group-wide (regional)aspects will have to be incorporated.

    Railway Track Allocation by Rapid Branching (2010)

    Description: The track allocation problem, also known as train routing problem or train timetabling problem, is to find a conflict-free set of train routes of maximum value in a railway network. Although it can be modeled as a standard path packing problem, instances of sizes relevant for real-world railway applications could not be solved up to now. We propose a rapid branching column generation approach that integrates the solution of the LP relaxation of a path coupling formulation of the problem with a special rounding heuristic. The approach is based on and exploits special properties of the bundle method for the approximate solution of convex piecewise linear functions. Computational results for difficult instances of the benchmark library TTPLIB are reported.

    Optimizing the Simplon Railway Corridor (2010)

    Description: This paper presents a case study on a railway timetable optimization for the very dense Simplon corridor, a major railway connection in the Alps between Switzerland and Italy. Starting from a detailed microscopic network as it is used in railway simulation, the data is transformed by an automatic procedure to a less detailed macroscopic network, that is sufficient for the purpose of capacity planning and amenable to state-of-the-art integer programming optimization methods. In this way, the macroscopic railway network is saturated with trains. Finally, the corresponding timetable is re-transformed to the microscopic level in such a way that it can be operated without any conflicts among the slots. Using this integer programming based micro-macro aggregation-disaggregation approach, it becomes for the first time possible to generate a profit maximal and conflict free timetable for the complete Simplon corridor over an entire day by a simultaneous optimization of all trains requests. This also allows to to undertake a sensitivity analysis of various problem parameters.

    Analysis of a multi-scale asymptotic model for internal gravity waves in a moist atmosphere (2010)

    Description: The thesis presents the analysis of a reduced model for modulation of internal gravity waves by deep convective clouds. The starting point for the derivation are conservation laws for mass, momentum and energy coupled with a bulk micro-physics model describing the evolution of mixing ratios of water vapor, cloud water and rain water. A reduced model for the identified scales of the regime is derived, using multi-scale asymptotics. The closure of the model employs conditional averaging over the horizontal scale of the convective clouds. The resulting reduced model is an extension of the anelastic equations, linearized around a constant background state, which are well-known from meteorology. The closure of the model is achieved purely by analytical means and involves no additional physically motivated assumptions. The essential new parameter arising from the coupling to a micro-physics model is the area fraction of saturated regions on the horizontal scale of the convective clouds. It turns out that this parameter is constant on the employed short timescale. Hence the clouds constitute a constant background, modulating the characteristics of propagation of internal waves. The model is then investigated by analytical as well as numerical means. Important results are, among others, that in the model moisture (i) inhibits propagation of internal waves by reducing the modulus of the group velocity, (ii) reduces the angle between the propagation direction of a wave-packet and the horizontal, (iii) causes critical layers and (iv) introduces a maximum horizontal wavelength beyond which waves are no longer propagating but become evanescent. The investigated examples of orographically generated gravity waves also feature a significant reduction of vertical momentum flux by moisture. The model is extended by assuming systematically small under-saturation, that is saturation at leading order. The closure is similar to the original case but requires additional assumptions. The saturated area fraction in the obtained model is no longer constant but now depends nonlinearly on vertical displacement and thus on vertical velocity.

    A Constraint Integer Programming Approach for Resource-Constrained Project Scheduling (2010)

    Description: We propose a hybrid approach for solving the resource-constrained project scheduling problem which is an extremely hard to solve combinatorial optimization problem of practical relevance. Jobs have to be scheduled on (renewable) resources subject to precedence constraints such that the resource capacities are never exceeded and the latest completion time of all jobs is minimized. The problem has challenged researchers from different communities, such as integer programming (IP), constraint programming (CP), and satisfiability testing (SAT). Still, there are instances with 60 jobs which have not been solved for many years. The currently best known approach, lazyFD, is a hybrid between CP and SAT techniques. In this paper we propose an even stronger hybridization by integrating all the three areas, IP, CP, and SAT, into a single branch-and-bound scheme. We show that lower bounds from the linear relaxation of the IP formulation and conflict analysis are key ingredients for pruning the search tree. First computational experiments show very promising results. For five instances of the well-known PSPLIB we report an improvement of lower bounds. Our implementation is generic, thus it can be potentially applied to similar problems as well.

    Coupling Meshbased and Meshfree Methods by a Transfer Operator Approach (2010)

    Description: In contrast to the well known meshbased methods like the finite element method, meshfree methods do not rely on a mesh. However besides their great applicability, meshfree methods are rather time consuming. Thus, it seems favorable to combine both methods, by using meshfree methods only in a small part of the domain, where a mesh is disadvantageous, and a meshbased method for the rest of the domain. We motivate, that this coupling between the two simulation techniques can be considered as saddle point problem and show the stability of this coupling. Thereby a novel transfer operator is introduced, which interacts in the transition zone, where both methods coexist.

    Notes: Läßt man auf N-(β-Haloalkyl)-imidhalogenide, die bei der Reaktion von Olefinen mit Halogenen in Gegenwart von Nitrilen neben den vic-Dihalogenalkanen entstehen, Wasser, Schwefelwasserstoff, Ammoniak oder primäre Amine in alkalischem Medium einwirken, so erhält man in praktisch einstufiger Synthese Δ2-Oxazoline, Δ2-Thiazoline oder Δ2-Imidazoline. Die Reaktionsschritte verlaufen stereospezifisch. Bei Verwendung von Δ1-Olefinen ist in den Δ2 -Azolinen neben dem 4-substituierten Hauptprodukt (Markownikow-Addition) auch die 5-substituierte Verbindung (anti-Markownikow-Addition) zu 5-10% enthalten.

    Notes: In einer modifizierten Umlaufapparatur nach GILLESPIE wurden Flüssigkeit-Dampf-Gleichgewichte der Systeme n-Butanol/sek.-Butanol und n-Butanol/tert.-Butanol isobar bei 100, 300, 500 und 700 Torr im gesamten Molenbruchbereich gemessen.Aus den Experimentaldaten wurden unkorrigierte Aktivitätskoeffizienten berechnet und mit Hilfe der Beziehungen von LI und COULL approximativ dargestellt. Für beide Systeme konnten geringe aber eindeutig nachweisbare negative Abweichungen vom idealen Mischungszustand festgestellt werden. Die Meßwerte erfüllten die thermodynamische Konsistenzbedingung nach HERINGTON befriedigend. Die thermodynamischen Zusatzeigenschaften deuten die Bildung von Mischassoziaten in beiden Systemen an.

    Notes: Bei 25°C wurden an den binären Systemen Methanol/Dimethylformamid, Aceton/Dimethylformamid, Äthanol/Diäthylformamid und Aceton/Diäthylformamid mittlere molare Zusatzenthalpien und mittlere molare Zusatzvolumina bestimmt. Die kalorimetrischen Messungen erfolgten vorwiegend im mittleren, die pyknometrischen im gesamten Molenbruchgebiet. Die experimentell gefundenen Zusatzeffekte ergaben sich bei äquimolarer Zusammensetzung in der genannten Reihenfolge der Systeme wie folgt: -26,5; +8,8; +72,5; +10,2 cal/Mol bzw. -0,385; -0,26; -0,095 und +0,036 cm3/Mol. Ihre Konzentrationsabhängigkeiten zeigten schwache bis mäßige Asymmetrie.Diese Ergebnisse führten zusammen mit früher ermittelten molaren freien Zusatzenthalpien zu qualitativen Modellvorstellungen über molekularstrukturell bedingte Nahordnungszustände in den vier Mischphasen.

Die Umsetzung von Tetraphenylbiphosphin mit LiPR2 (R = C2H5; c-C6H11) und Li2PR′ (R′ = C6H5) führt zunächst zu unsymmetrischen Biphosphinen R′2P-PR2 bzw. R′(Li)P-PR′2, die mit weiterem LiPR2(Li2PR′) die symmetrischen Biphosphine R2P-PR2 bzw. R′(Li)P-P(Li)R′ bilden. Aus „Phenylphosphor“ und Li2PC6H5 entstehen Verbindungen des Typs Li-(PC6H5)x-Li (x = 2, 3, 4). Versuche, Lithium-phosphide der Zusammensetzung Li-(PC6H5)x-P(C6H5)2 (x 〉 1) aus „Phenylphosphor“ und Lithium-diphenylphosphid herzustellen, blieben ohne Erfolg. Es gelang nur, ihre Zerfalls- bzw. Abbauprodukte 1.4-Dilithium-1.2.3.4-tetraphenyl-tetraphosphin, Tetraphenylbiphosphin und 1-Lithium-1.2.2-triphenylbiphosphin zu isolieren.

    Notes: Die Anwendbarkeit der jodometrischen Titration zur Bestimmung von Enthiolgehalten einiger Thiocarbonylverbindungen wird geprüft. Verläßliche Ergebnisse lassen sich nur bei völlig wasserfreier Arbeitsweise erzielen, anderenfalls wird ein Enthiolgehalt nur vorgetäuscht. Die Endpunktsanzeige kann optisch oder besser potentiometrisch erfolgen. Rücktitrationsverfahren mit wäßrigen Lösungen sind ungeeignet. Beim potentiometrischen Verfahren vermögen einige CH-acide Thion- und Dithioester mit basischen Leitsalzen Enthiolate zu bilden, die wie freie Enthiole reagieren, weshalb die Methode bei diesen Verbindungen nicht brauchbar ist.

    Notes: Polarographic investigations on complexes of cadmium and lead with adipic acid have been carried out. The present study includes the effects of various parameters such as mercury pressure, temperature, concentration of metal ion, concentration of ligand, pH, surface active substances and viscosity on the waves. The plot of  -  E1/2 vs SCE and  -  log Cx is a curve (Fig. 2) showing the formation of more than one complex. The value of F3(X) is found to be constant (Table 1) which proves that three complexes are formed. Their overall stability constants have been calculated by using DEFORD and HUME'S method [2] and the values habe been found to be β1 = 16.5, β2 = 48.5, β3 = 116 ± 2.Along with this, effect of pH on pK1 (4.43) and pK2 (5.28) of adipic acid has also been investigated. The present work is also an attempt to describe the mechanism of the electrode process involved therein.

    Notes: Die katalytische Aktivität von metallcarbonylen wird durch die Elektrophilie der entsprechenden Metallcarbonylwasserstoffe bestimmt, welche auf Grund ihrer Sauren Eigenschaften eingeschätzt wurde.Bei steigender Acidität des Metallcarbonylwasserstoffes wird seine elektrophile Wirkung gegenüber dem Ausgangsprodukt (z.B. einem Olefin) beschleunigt und die Reaktionsfreudigkeit des als Zwischenprodukt entstehenden Acylmetallcarbonyls verstärkt.Die sauren Eigenschaften von als Katalysator wirkenden Metallcarbonylwasserstoffen können durch Einfügung elektronenabgebender bzw. -anziehender Liganden in das Molekül geändert werden. Gleichzeitig verändern sich die katalytische Aktivität sowie der Anteil der nach der Markownikow-Regel bei Umsetzung von Olefinen gebildeten Reaktionsprodukte.

Halogenierende Spaltung der Chlormercuriverbindungen ergibt 1-Halogen-2-acylaminoalkane (6). Die Umsetzung mit Hg(NO3)2 und die halogenierende Spaltung der quecksilberorganischen Verbindungen erfolgen stereospezifisch. Die Addition des HgNO3⊕ erfolgt vorwiegend im MARKOWNIKOW-Sinne.

In Abhängigkeit von den Ausgangsprodukten findet man darüber hinaus Benzofurane, Benzo[1.2-b; 4.5-b′]difurane und Benzo[1.2-b; 4,5-b′]dipyrone. Aus 2-Amino-3-benzoyl-acrylsäureäthylester entsteht mit p-Benzochinon in guten Ausbeuten 5-Hydroxy-3-benzoyl-2-äthoxycarbonyl-indol 19.

    Notes: Hexa-coordinated complexes of nickel(II) bis(methylacetoacetate) with pyridine, β-picoline and β-picoline have been prepared and characterised. Conductance measurements in methanol indicate non-electrolytic nature of the complexes. The complexes are all pale blue in color and are paramagnetic (μeff. = 3.0-3.1 B.M.). Electronic spectra and magnetic moment identify the complexes as octahedral ones. The d-d spectra of the complexes are discussed in the light of the structure of the complexes. The spectrophotometric data for the adducts have been used to calculate the values for the parameters, Δ, B′, β and λ.

The substitution and elimination reactions occur simultaneously in alkaline medium, while in neutral medium only substitution reaction occurs. They have been analysed kinetically and given separate rate constants.

    Notes: Uranium tetraacetate is always the end product when uranium tetrachloride is treated with excess of tertiary butyl acetate, even in cold. However, when uranium tetrachloride is made to react with other esters, the replacement of chloride groups by acetate groups was found to be in the order normal 〈 secondary 〈 tertiary, resulting in the formation of acetate derivatives.

    Notes: Aus den Alkalisalzen des Benzimidazolthions bildet sich bei der Reaktion mit Acetobromglucose in Äthanol oder in Aceton - Wasser sehr bevorzugt das S-Glucosid 2. Vom Benzimidazolthion werden drei Quecksilber-Verbindungen hergestellt; ihre Umsetzungen mit Acetobromglucose in siedendem Xylol oder siedendem Benzol führen zum N,N′-Diglucosid 5, daneben entsteht etwas N-Glucosid 4. Die beiden Verbindungen bilden sich dabei zumindest teilweise aus dem S-Glucosid 2 durch Umglucosidierung und durch Transglucosidierung. In Dimethylformamid liefert die Glucosidierung des Bis-(benzimidazolthionyl)-quecksilbers mit Acetobromglucose bevorzugt das S-Glucosid 2. Dieses läßt sich am besten durch Glucosidieren des N,N′-Bis-(trimethylsilyl)-benzimidazolthions in der Schmelze, das N,N′-Diglucosid 5 durch Umsetzung der Silyl-Verbindung mit Acetobromglucose in siedendem Benzol bei Gegenwart von Quecksilber(II)-bromid und Quecksilberoxid darstellen. Die beiden N-Glucoside 4 und 5 können durch Kochen mit RANEY-Nickel in Äthanol entschwefelt werden, man erhält dabei das Benzimidazol-N-glucosid 6 bzw. das 2,3-Dihydro-benzimidazol-N,N′-diglucosid 7.

    Notes: Die aus 4-Amino-1,2,4-triazol bzw. 3,5-Dimethyl-4-amino-1,2,4-triazol erhältlichen 1-Al-kyl-4-amino- bzw. 1-Alkyl-3,5-dimethyl-4-amino-triazolium-Salze gehen beim Erhitzen mit verdünnter Natronlauge durch Ringspaltung, Wanderung der gebildeten Acylgruppe und erneuten Ringschluß in die entsprechenden 4-Alkylamino-1,2,4-triazole über, deren Struktur bewiesen wird.Die Acylwanderung verläuft intermolekular, wie sich aus dem Kreuzungsexperiment ergibt.

So sind N-(β-Haloalkyl)-amide, N-(β-Haloalkyl)-thiolurethane, N-(β-Haloalkyl)-N′,N′-dialkylharnstoffe und N-(β-Haloalkyl)-urethane zugänglich.Die primär entstehenden Verbindungen mit Imidhalogenidstruktur sind teils zersetzliche, teils in Substanz isolierbare Verbindungen.

Bei der Umsetzung von Oxalylhalogeniden mit 1, oder 4,6-Diphenyl-2H-thiopyranon-(2) 4 fragmentiert das Acylierungsprodukt A zu den reaktiven 2-Halogen-thiopyryliumsalzen 3.Die Hydrolyse der 3, führt zu Gemischen von 1, und 4,6-Diphenyl-2H-thiopyranon-(2) 4, die Sulfhydrolyse zu reinem 1.1 und 2 sind zu 4 hydrolysierbar, mit primären Aminen bilden 1,2 und 3 die Azomethine 5. Am Stickstoff aliphatisch substituierte 5 werden durch Methyljodid zu 2-Dialkylamino-thiopyrylium-jodiden 6 alkyliert. Aliphatische Amine bewirken bei 4 einen Austausch des Ringschwefels gegen Stickstoff unter Bildung von 4,6-Diphenyl-pyridonen-(2) 9. Kupferbronze reagiert mit 1 unter Bildung von 4,4′,6,6′-Tetraphenyl-2,2′-dithiodipyrylen 10.

    Notes: Die charakteristischen UV-S-Absorptionen einiger Aryldithiocarbonsäureester werden mitgeteilt. Die längstwelligen Banden werden auf der Basis der HMO - SC-Übergangsenergien diskutiert. Die ersten intensiven Absorptionsmaxima von Dithiobenzoesäureestern, die in p-Stellung mit Elektronendonatoren substituiert sind, dienen zur Ableitung spektroskopischer Substituentenkonstanten. Diese sind auch für andere Serien brauchbar.Schon die einfache HÜCKELsche MO - LCAO - (kurz HMO-) Methode erlaubt eine Beschreibung der Anregungsenergien der längstwelligen Absorptionsbanden heterocyclischer Schwefelverbindungen im ultravioletten und sichtbaren Spektrabereich [1-5].Diese quantenchemische Methode geht von sinnvollen Annahmen über die Eigenschaften der einzelnen Atome μ und Bindungen μν in den π-Elektronensystemen aus, die als empirische Parameter αμ = αC + hμβCC (COULOMB-Integral) und βμν = kμνβCC (Resonanzintegral) in die Rechnung eingehen (vgl. [6]).In welchem Umfang die bisher verwendeten Schwefelparameter auch für die Berechnung acyclischer Schwefelverbindungen geeignet sind, ist bisher nicht eingehend geprüft worden. Ein anderes offenes Problem ist das Verhältnis der Schwefelparameter zu denen anderer Heteroatome. Dithiocarbonsäureester, deren Präparation und Reduktion Gegenstand einer früheren Veröffentlichung war [7], bieten eine Möglichkeit, diesen Fragenkomplex in Angriff zu nehmen und das experimentelle spektroskopische Material zu systematisieren.

    Notes: Mit einem anisothermen Mischungskalorimeter, das auf dem Prinzip der thermometrischen Titration beruht, und einem Verdampfungskalorimeter, das nach der Inertgas-Durchströmungsmethode arbeitet und die isotherme differentielle Verdampfungswärme zu bestimmen gestattet, wurde das Enthalpie-Konzentrations-Diagramm (MOLLIER-PONCHON-Diagramm) des Systems Nitromethan/Wasser für 50° in einer für technische Zwecke ausreichenden Güte bestimmt. Die experimentellen Ergebnisse konnten mit theoretischen Voraussagen von SCHUBERTH [2] unter Verwendung des zweiseitigen PORTERschen Ansatzes, der für die Beschreibung des Phasengleichgewichtsverhaltens des genannten Systems eine gute Näherung darstellt [3], verglichen werden; die Übereinstimmung war im Rahmen des zu Erwartenden zufriedenstellend.

    Notes: Die N2O4-Oxydation von Thioäthern R1 - S - R2 in Tetrachlorkohlenstoff als Lösungsmittel wurde nach der Methode der Konkurrenzreaktion kinetisch verfolgt. Die relativen RG-Konstanten von 6 kernsubstituierten Thioanisolen genügen der Hammett-Gleichung mit ϱ = -2,71; die relativen RG-Konstanten von 30 aliphatischen Sulfiden genügen der Taft-Gleichung mit ϱ* = -1,68 und δ = 0,85. Zwischen den RG-Konstanten der N2O4-Oxydation und denen der H2O2-Oxydation besteht eine lineare Freie-Energie-Beziehung. Alle Befunde deuten darauf hin, daß bei der untersuchten Reaktion ein nucleophiler Angriff des Sulfid-S-Atoms auf ein O-Atom des N2O4 stattfindet. Da die N2O4-Oxydation nach einem Geschwindigkeitsgesetz \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$$ {\rm RG = k}_{\rm 3} \left[{{\rm Thio}\mathop {\rm a}\limits^{..} {\rm ther}} \right]\left[{{\rm N}_{\rm 2} {\rm O}_{\rm 4} } \right]^2 $$\end{document} verläuft, muß ein cyclischer Übergangszustand angenommen werden, der zwei Moleküle N2O4 und ein Molekül Thioäther enthält.

    Notes: Es wurde gezeigt, daß eine Reinigung des bei der Perjodatoxydation des Dextrans gebildeten Oxydextrans vom Jodat in einfacher Weise mittels Ionenaustauschern auch im präparativen Maßstab erfolgen kann. An Stelle des in der Literatur für analytische Arbeiten zur Abtrennung von Perjodat beschriebenen Austauschers Amberlite IRA - 400 (Acetatform) konnten mit Erfolg Austauscher der DDR-Produktion eingesetzt werden (Wofatit SBW und Wofatit L 150 des VEB Farbenfabrik Wolfen). Wofatit L 150 ist wegen seiner höheren Kapazität und seines universelleren Anwendungsbereiches (pH 1 - 14) dem Wofatit SBW vorzuziehen. Die Abtrennung des Oxydextrans vom Jodat gelingt quantitativ bei einer Rückgewinnung des Jodats von 99,0 ± 0,7%. Ist in der zu reinigenden Oxydextranlösung neben Jodat noch Natriumsulfat in größeren Mengen vorhanden, wie es für die Regeneration des Jodats zu Perjodat durch anodische Oxydation erforderlich ist, muß zweistufig adsorbiert/eluiert werden.

Die erhaltenen Spiro-isoxazoline wurden NMR-spektroskopisch untersucht und daraus die Additionsrichtung festgelegt. Die LiAlH4-Reduktion vom Benzonitriloxid-Addukt des 2-Methylen-cycloheptanons-(1) liefert 1,2-Dihydroxy-2-(β-amino-β-phenyl-äthyl)-cycloheptan.

    Notes: Die Temperaturabhängigkeit des endo/exo-Isomerenverhältnisses bei der Umsetzung von Cyclopentadien mit Acrolein wird untersucht; in dieser kinetisch kontrollierten Reaktion fällt der Gehalt an endo-Form von 76% bei 20°C (in Dioxan) auf 71% bei 101°C. Für die Bildung der endo-Form wird bei etwa gleicher Aktivierungsentropie eine geringere Aktivierungsenthalpie benötigt (ΔΔH≠ 650 cal/Mol). Beim Erhitzen von 2,5-Methylen-1,2,5,6-tetrahydrobenzaldehyd 1 erfolgt Isomerisierung, wobei der Gleichgewichtswert bei 170°C nach wenigen Stunden erreicht wird; unter 100° bleibt die Ausgangszusammensetzung erhalten.Die Äquilibrierung mit Basen liefert den Gleichgewichtswert bereits nach wenigen Minuten: Kexo/endo = 0,695 (20°C); 0,925 (100°C). Die Basenkonzentration muß niedrig sein. da beim Aldehyd 1 leicht CANNIZZARO-Reaktion eintritt.Äquilibrierungsversuche mit Säuren schlugen infolge Nebenproduktbildung fehl.Durch alkalische Hydrolyse des Enolacetats 5 wird das thermodynamisch, durch saure Spaltung von 5 sowie des Enoläthers 6 oder der Enamine 7 wird das kinetisch bestimmte endo/exo-Verhältnis (∼ 75/25) erhalten.Reaktivitätsunterschiede der beiden Formen des Aldehyds 1 machen sich nicht bemerkbar.
