Chloroantimonates(III): Crystal Structures of Anilinium Tetrachloroantimonate, (C6H5NH3)SbCl4, and Dianilinium Pentachloroantimonate, (C6H5NH3)2SbCI5Two congruently melting phases of molar ratios 1:1 and 1:2 were identified in the system SbCl3/aniline hydrochloride. Both chloroantimonates(III) crystallize in the monoclinic space group P21/c; anilinium tetrachloroantimonate, (C6H5NH3)SbCl4 with a = 1546.7(14), b = 731.2(4), c = 3177.5(24) pm, β = 107.06(6)° and Z = 12; dianilinium pentachloroantimonate, (C6H5NH3)2SbCl5 with a = 1313.3(12), b = 1974.7(27), c = 741.4(6) pm, β = 105.71(7)° and Z = 4. The structures are built up from anilinium cations and chloroantimonate anions, which are formally adequate to SbCl-4 and SbCl52- ions, respectively, but are in fact higher associated. Bond lengths of chemically equivalent bonds vary in the range of 238 to 287 pm, and 239 to 285 pm, respectively. Thus they are not distinctly separated from intermolecular distances (288 to 337 pm) for the tetrachloroantimonate. The coordination of the Sb atoms is distorted octahedral. The octahedra built up chains by chlorine bridging. The structures are compared to other chloroantimonates(III).
Notes:
